David wasn't sure what he expected, but suddenly being asked on a proper date was not it. His mouth worked silently as he tried to form a reply. Mr. Black just smirked.
"I'm not hearing a no." The demon noticed.
Thinking it over, David really didn't have a reason to reject him. For one, it was most likely going to be a free meal. Mr. Black had yet to demand they go dutch after all, and another thing, the guy was rich. Sure, there were a lot of stigmas about humans cavorting with demons, but at the end of the day the guy was willing to accommodate David's requests, such as hiding his eyes when they glow. Plus he was an excellent kisser. If he was that good, then David could only imagine what he was like in bed.
That last thought surprised him and he quickly stopped letting his imagination get the better of him. "Okay, sure."
"Excellent." Mr. Black beamed. "We can go tonight after work. In the meantime, I was serious about going over your duties as my assistant. Have a seat." He indicated towards a black leather chair.
David paused. "You mean I actually have to work?"
"It is a job after all. Don't worry. As I've said before, it won't be anything too hard."
His initial impression that this job was just for show had disintegrated right in front of his eyes, and for the next couple of hours the demon proceeded to show him how to work an outlook calendar, set appointments, and how to organize any printed paperwork he may have to deliver. All this new information put Davids head in a tizzy as he tried to memorize it, but he had never been good at computers. Having dropped out of school, he had never needed to use them much.
"Don't worry." Mr. Black took notice. "Most of the time you'll be getting coffees or grabbing food."
"Now that I can do." David exclaimed.
The demon had a few more meetings to attend to, which he had David sit in on so he could understand how things worked. He didn't catch most of what they were talking about though, so he zoned out for a majority of their discussions. By the time they were ready to leave he was hungry and wanted a nap.
"Is there any place nice you'd like to eat for our first date?" Mr. Black asked on their way to his car.
"Italian is always a good choice. Maybe Olive Garden?"
"Olive Garden?" Mr. Black grinned. "We can do better. Have you ever heard of Macaroni Grill?"
"You're telling me that a place called 'Macaroni Grill' is better than Olive Garden?"
"Yes."
David didn't want to argue, so he just agreed and let the man take him there. Mr. Black made their reservation and arrived just in time to be seated. The place didn't seem any different from Olive Garden, though they did serve complimentary bread and olive oil. David, having eaten bread for most of his diet thanks to the Salvation Army, was not impressed.
Then he looked over the menu and found that he had no idea what most of the items were. There were a few familiar dishes, but he decided the safest route would be the spaghetti. Unfortunately, this place had a custom menu that required him to pick out his toppings, which slightly annoyed him since he preferred his food ready to go.
"Not to your liking?" The demon asked.
"I just prefer simpler menus." David explained, slightly miffed that most of these dishes had Italian names. What the heck was a Fritta?
"If it's simple you're looking for, then try the fried mac and cheese bites."
That sounded like something off the children's menu. Maybe he should look there? "Where's that?"
