The rest of his lunch hour was relatively normal. David had half expected Kevin to try and pull something while they were alone, but by the time they were ready to return to work he was starting to wonder if he was imagining things.

Maybe Kevin didn't wink at him? Maybe he got something in his eye? Maybe giving David his number was just the guys way of being friendly?

Either way, David felt much more comfortable around the man and was more than willing to ask him for help in the future. One important fact he learned was that they were both assistants, which meant their jobs were essentially the same. Though Kevin's boss didn't nag him like Mr. Black did. Then again, their relationship was very different.

Speaking of which, he still had to decide what to do about Mr. Black.

Kevin escorted David to the elevators. As he wandered back to Mr. Black's office, he tried going over his options.

He was positive he wasn't in love with Mr. Black, but had a feeling that Mr. Black may have more than a passing interest in him. If the guy remained too attached, who knew what else he'd drag David into? The only other demon David had ever considered dating was Ricky, and that was because both he and Ricky were essentially on the same level at the time. Both of them were barhopping gambling alcoholics, so he wouldn't of had to worry about being told off about his bad habits, or feeling inferior to him. Now that Ricky got himself cleaned up....

David shook his head. Why did his thoughts always linger back to Ricky? The guy was officially out of his league now. Plus, he was married. They no longer had that much in common anymore, let alone hung out. If anything, he felt like their friendship was now in danger.

Standing in the office, he leaned over and banged his head on the wall. Stupid! Stupid! Stupid! This is no time to be thinking of that! Focus!

With a heavy sigh, he sat at his chair and waited for the demon to return from lunch, which took another forty minutes. When Mr. Black entered, he glanced apologetically at David.

"It ran a bit long." He explained.

"That's okay." David shrugged, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes.

Mr. Black walked over and patted his head. "How was your lunch?"

"Good. Kevin said I can ask him for advice since we're both working similar positions."

"True." Mr. Black agreed as he set his laptop bag on the desk. "Though he's been promoted from coffee runs, so now he mostly takes calls and schedules meetings."

"Oh. No wonder he was so eager to get away from his desk." David joked. "Did you know about the garden area?"

"Hmm?" The demon leaned back against his desk and folded his arms. "Yes, though I've never had time to go there."

"It's pretty." David mused. "It looks like the kind of place you'd go on a date."

Mr. Black frowned. "You like that sort of thing?"

David looked up. "I don't know. Dating and flowers just seem to go hand in hand. Me and Ricky used to joke that-"

"Why are you bringing up Ricky?" Mr. Black suddenly asked. David noticed his face had gone serious.

"Umm...Because he's my friend?" David scoffed, not understanding why the man had been bothered by that.

"And love interest." The demon replied bluntly. "Which you brought up after mentioning how romantic the gardens were."

"Don't twist my words."

"I'm not. I'm pointing out what I heard."

"Fine. Hear what you want. I was just making conversation." David huffed and turned away, watching the clouds float by outside. The room was tense for a while before Mr. Black seemed to calm down. He heard the man sigh dejectedly.
