David slept soundly for most of the night. A few times he woke up only to find Mr. Black had embraced him in his sleep. Every now and then he'd squeeze the little human closer to himself and nuzzle the top of his head. For such a serious man, he sure was cuddly.
David couldn't complain though. He was comfortable and dare he say...Happy? This was one of the best nights he'd had in a long time, so despite the few interruptions, he was able to fall back asleep easily.
When morning came, he found that he was still trapped in the mans arms. Mr. Black's thumb lazily flit back and forth over his shoulder as he held David close. Luckily the water he drank last night helped prevent any sort of hangover symptoms, so at worst David simply felt groggy.
Sleepily he stretched, causing Mr. Black to loosen his grip. With a wide yawn, David noticed that the demon was smiling down at him as he propped himself up on his elbow. "Sleep well?"
"Like the dead." David sighed, closing his eyes again.
Mr. Black chuckled, then pecked him on the cheek. "We still have work today. Don't forget that."
"Hmmm" David murmured, already slipping back into dream land.
He was vaguely aware of the man getting off the bed. After a short while though, he found that he was unable to fall completely asleep thanks to the light now shining into the room.
Grabbing a pillow, he buried his face to block it out, but that did little to help. With a huff, he rolled onto his back and decided to get up.
David searched for the clothes he had tossed aside last night, only to find a new outfit neatly folded on the side table. Now that there was light to see by, he could see the room itself and took note of the modern style. Squares were everywhere. The ceiling was lit by a flat square light that jutted out from the center and the walls were decorated with abstract paintings. He spotted a large dark wooden dresser, two side tables beside the queen sized bed, and three doors on each of the opposing walls. Two of them were ajar, revealing a bathroom and a closet. The third door led to the main room.
Taking a shower, he cleaned himself quickly, now familiar with the over sized facility, and made sure to use extra shampoo in case the demon made a fuss again. He then brushed his teeth and stepped out onto the shag carpet wearing his new outfit. Unfortunately it was still not enough as Mr. Black ran another inspection, fixing his hair and straightening his collar.
"Much better." He patted David's shoulder.
David gave him a tight smile. "Is appearance really all that important to you?"
"For the company, yes." The demon replied. "If you don't dress professionally, it'll give the wrong impression. People might think we're lazy."
The little human shrugged, unable to disagree. He'd been chased out of plenty of stores for his shoddy attire before. "By the way, all these outfits you keep buying me, am I gonna have to pay you back?" He asked cautiously. "Because if working for you is going to make me go broke, I don't think the job is worth the pay."
Mr. Black grinned. "Consider the clothes a gift. As for your payment, it's a bi-weekly thing. Normally we do direct deposit, but you don't seem to have a bank account so you'll get a printed check instead. I suggest you open an account soon though, it'll help you get your money much faster."
"Sure." David turned away with a grimace. The last time he tried making a bank account he ended up owing them money because he could never keep his balance above the minimum requirement. They had charged him a fee for opening an account, a fee for keeping the account open each month, a fee for withdrawing money, and a fee for sending paper statements. Over all, he had no interest in dealing with banks unless it was to cash a check.
