David rubbed his eyes, wondering how he let Mr. Black drag him all the way here without a fight. He had been so good at avoiding him for six months, but now he found himself holed up in the demon's massive apartment, hotel, penthouse...Whatever it was.
The room was bigger than any apartment David could ever afford. There was a shag carpet with a table and chairs next to a two story window that overlooked the skyline. Next to it was a hovering staircase leading up to an indoor balcony decorated with elaborate plants. Just under the indoor balcony was a minibar and kitchen. Outside, there was a massive balcony with even more chairs and a small glass pool jutting outwards with a thin white hand railing along the sides.
Mr. Black was pouring a glass of wine for the two of them as he stood by the bar counter. David took the glass unceremoniously and slammed it in one gulp.
"More?" Mr. Black asked with a smirk, to which David nodded. "So, now that we've come to an agreement, let's have a talk."
David huffed before slamming the second glass as fast as he could. He knew this was a bad idea. All he wanted was to be left alone. His whole life David had only hung out with other humans, and for the brief five years that he was friends with Ricky, he had successfully continued avoiding other demons. Then again, that was mostly because Ricky also didn't like socializing with other demons. It was one of many things he felt that they had in common.
"Fine." David caved in. Maybe he could get this over with and go home? "What did you want to talk about?"
"How did you and Ricky meet?" Mr. Black asked as he took a sip. For a demon, David had to admit that the man was handsome. The way he leaned back against the counter in his clean suit and lazily held his glass with confidence simply screamed 'suave'. Had he been human, David would have considered trying to make him a sugar daddy. But he wasn't. So never mind that.
"Didn't Ricky already tell you about that?" David retorted as he sat in one of the chairs. "You two are together enough to know that."
Mr. Black gave a half laugh. "We are business partners. While we communicate through work, we are not on friendly enough terms to talk about our personal lives." He took another sip. "Don't get me wrong, Ricky is a great business partner, but he has three husbands that I'd rather not make a wrong impression with."
David could understand that. The first time he met one of Ricky's husbands, Thomas, he had bailed for fear of giving them the wrong idea as well.
"True." He agreed and stared out the window. "We met at a bar. We were both drunk off our asses and he was being a big baby over his recent breakup. I mistook him for a human at first and tried to comfort him." That was only a half truth, but Mr. Black didn't need to know the details.
"And when you learned that he was a demon?" The man tilted his head.
David sighed. "He invited me back out for drinks. By that time we had already talked a lot, so giving him the usual silent treatment wasn't going to work. Plus, we got along well enough."
"So the silent treatment is a regular thing with you?"
David hesitated, slightly afraid of offending the demon. "Kind of? You know how it is. I'm human so it's best not to...You know...."
"Get involved with demons?"
"..."
"It's alright." Mr. Black set his glass down. "I can understand that. Humans are quite skittish around my kind."
"Right." David continued to stare out the window, refusing to make eye contact with the demon sitting across from him. How uncomfortable.
