David expected the night to be awkward, but somehow he felt more at ease with Mr. Black instead. He still had to pick up some of his things from Corey's place if he was going to stay though. Considering how long he and Mr. Black had been having their little argument, he doubted the demon would magically pull another set of perfectly sized clothes out for him to wear in the morning.
Once his phone was charged, he had Mr. Black give him a ride. The demon seemed a little unsettled when they pulled up to Corey's place and David wanted to ask why, but he felt like that conversation could wait till he got back.
"Dude, a little warning next time you disappear would be nice." Corey exclaimed as David walked through the door. "I almost called for a search party!"
"I'm an adult Corey, I can stay out if I want." David argued halfheartedly as he located his bag.
"Yeah but you went to a Casino and never came back."
David sighed, admitting that he wasn't entirely wrong.
"Right. Sorry about that. Anyways, I found another place to stay so I'm gonna grab my stuff and go."
"Did you find a 'sugar momma' or something?" Corey joked, turning to sit in his gaming chair. "Because I doubt any of your apartment applications would send you a response at this hour."
David shrugged. Mr. Black pretty much was his sugar daddy at this point.
"Well, best of luck to ya." Corey gave a half solute with his Xbox controller.
David nodded back and left for Mr. Blacks car. The demon watched him the entire time and when he didn't drive away immediately, David turned his attention to him.
"What?"
"Is he.....Just a friend?" The demon asked hesitantly.
"Kind of?" David shook his head, trying to understand why that would matter. "I hadn't seen him in years, then I bumped into him at the store. He let me stay if I helped pay rent for a while, that's all."
"So you're not-" Mr. Black then cut himself off and shook his head. "Sorry, it's none of my business." He began driving back to his penthouse.
It occurred to David that the demon was trying his best to respect his boundaries and not butt into his personal life too much. It was a nice change.
David's phone suddenly vibrated, and he noticed he had a message from Facebook. It was one of his old school friends. Well, 'friend' was a strong word. It was more like they shared a classroom and never talked to one another. He recognized the profile pic as a boy named Stephan who had always sat at the back of the class and never spoke up. He was shy and barely had any friends that David could remember.
Opening messenger, it read:
'I got your message about a job opportunity and wanted to see if you thought my resume would be okay? I have it posted on my Linkedin profile and can email it if you want?'
Excited to finally get a response, David followed the link to the guys business profile and found that Stephan had graduated with a degree in 'Actuarial Science', whatever that meant. Then he opened the guys resume and was blown away by how professional it looked. Stephan seemed more than prepared to work in an office.
"Do you have a printer?" He asked the demon suddenly.
"Of course." Mr. Black answered. "You need to print something?"
"Yep!"
When they returned, Mr. Black instructed him on how to connect to the wireless printer and soon he had the resume in his hands.
