It was early the next morning when David woke up wrapped in the demons arms. At some point Mr. Black had decided to spoon him despite his injuries, not that David had a problem with that. The man was still out cold after all so he most likely did it unconsciously, but his body was starting to feel sore in this position.
David tried to go back to sleep, but the pain began to mount and he realized it was because his painkillers were wearing off. Eventually he groaned in discomfort, waking the demon and causing him to immediately let go.
"David? Are you alright?" Mr. Black fretted as he sat up and examined the small human urgently. "The cut on your lip reopened..." He noticed, then his eyes widened and David knew he was recalling the night before.
He waited for the demon to do or say something apologetic, but instead he remained frozen above him, staring down uncertainly. Finally he shook his head and hurried out of bed. "I'll get you more medicine." He quickly got dressed and scurried around the room, gathering fresh bandages.
After applying new gauze, Mr. Black cautiously helped him wash his hair, making sure to avoid the stitches as well as avoiding any and all direct eye contact. David knew the man would feel guilty about what happened, but what was done was done and as he fled to the kitchen to cook breakfast, David attempted to explain that he was okay with what happened.
Mr. Black was pulling out some eggs when he realized David was standing nearby, shifting his feet as he eyed the man. "You shouldn't be up yet. We're going to be travelling for a bit today so you should rest as much as you can before we leave."
David glanced up, prepared to blurt out everything on his mind, but then his thoughts ground to a halt. If he told the man he was okay with what happened, would that be a confession? Mr. Black might be worrying about something else after all. Plus, they've had sex before so it's not like it was a big deal...
He mentally kicked himself for making up excuses. The man didn't deserve to be left thinking he had done something wrong. He had to speak up, even if it was embarrassing.
"About last night..." David scratched the back of his neck, unable to stop himself from fidgeting. "I'm...I mean...You didn't do anything wrong. I...I know you would have stopped if I said anything and I didn't, so..."
"David..." Mr. Black set the eggs on the counter and approached the little human. "I shouldn't have done that anyways. Injuries aside, silence is not a yes. But I still..." The guilt returned as the mans entire demeanor slumped.
He was right of course. David knew that silence didn't mean 'yes'. Something he came to respect after having been left passed out on strangers couches so many times. That wasn't the case here though. David had wanted something to happen, and Mr. Black was a demon who had to fight his own instincts to hold back. God this was complicated, and wrong. Why did he have to screw everything up?
"I'm sorry." David eventually whimpered, feeling like utter trash for letting things go so far. He should have thought ahead. He should have pushed the man away, knowing he would feel bad about it. There were so many ways he could have handled it better.
"No." Mr. Black suddenly wrapped the little human in a bear hug. "Don't apologize. You didn't do anything wrong."
"Neither did you." David whined into the mans chest.
"Then let's call it even for now?" Mr. Black compromised. "We'll just...Make sure it doesn't happen again."
David didn't quite like the sound of that. He very much liked being held by Peter and would welcome it again, but at the same time he didn't want to send anymore mixed signals until he got his own emotions under control.
