Since the cafe wasn't too far from the elevators David was able to quickly locate it and order Mr. Black's lunch. When he returned, it took him a few minutes to find his way back to the meeting room.

Mr. Black didn't pause at all when he entered and continued with his presentation as David went back to his corner to sit. He pulled out a small sandwich and chewed thoughtfully.

Was Mr. Black aware that there were demons in the company who were against Ricky working here? Did he consider how his subordinates would feel about him hiring a human? Was David causing trouble just by being here?

Question after question filled the little humans head and by the time they were finished for the day he was full of doubt and on the cusp of quitting.

Ricky would be disappointed, but at least the people who were meant to work here wouldn't be so agitated anymore. This definitely wasn't about David feeling uncomfortable working here. Nope. Not at all.

"Are you alright?" Mr. Black asked, drawing David out of his thoughts.

He had been hovering near the door of the mans office. Mr. Black was putting his laptop away and preparing to go home when he noticed the human's odd behavior.

David chewed his lip, wondering if now was a good time to tell him. It was just the first day, so maybe he could be honest? "I don't think I should be working here." He eventually admitted, slumping his shoulders.

Mr. Black tilted his head. "Why? I know the work you were given today wasn't all that hard, so there must be another reason."

"Yes, there is. I'm a human, remember? Don't you think the people working here will find it odd that a human is suddenly working at an all demon company? Or that I got immediately promoted as your direct assistant, helper, whatever..?"

"Did someone say something to you?" Mr. Black went serious, his sharp eyes focusing on David's expression. "Tell me who it was."

David sighed. "You say that like I'd know people. Which I don't, remember? I'm the newbie"

    "What did they look like."

    "I didn't see."

    "So someone did say something?"

    "Not to me."

Mr. Black paused as he thought over his words. "You were eavesdropping on someone?"

"I was looking for the elevators!" He tried to explain. "I overheard them in passing and they mentioned a human, so it was obvious they were talking about me. I got curious, so sue me."

The demon put a hand on Davids shoulder, then used a finger to tilt his head upwards. "They said they didn't want you working here?"

David simply nodded, to which Mr. Black closed his eyes and drew away. He walked up to the window and stared outwards with his hands folded behind his back. He was silent for a while.

"I'll admit...It did occur to me that there may still be some bad apples left over from the Mendova's ownership. We tried to filter them out as best we could, but it's impossible to keep a company running by firing all it's previous employee's. Hiring new ones takes time, so the most we could do was force them to take additional training to see how tolerant they were of humans and low ranks. Of course, that doesn't mean they couldn't have lied on the test." The man's head drooped. "I'm sorry I didn't prepare you for that, but in the future, please tell me if it happens again. Our image is important and having workers with that sort of attitude is unacceptable, especially at this time."
