Demi's POV
Alex texted me to pick her up, even though she was only there for fifteen minutes. I got in my car and drove to the school. She ran out of the building and hopped in the car. She was noticeably crying.

"What's wrong, baby girl?" I asked worriedly.

"N-Nothing! We broke up! The relationship was a lie. I-I'm fine! Can we just go home?!" Alex asked angrily.

Alex curled up in the front seat as I started driving back to the house. My baby girl was hurting, and she won't let me in. She was doing so much better at expressing how she felt. We arrived home and she ran inside the house, immediately going up to her room. I ran after her, but she locked the door.

"Alex! Let me in!" I knocked on Alex's door.

"N-No! I want to be alone!" Alex yelled from inside her room.

"Please, baby. Talk to me, baby girl. What's the matter?" I asked from outside Alex's door.

"N-Nothing is wrong! I-I'm fine!" Alex shouted.

I sighed and went downstairs, deciding to give Alex some space. I was watching crime shows while Batman and Ella were playing together.

My phone started ringing and saw it was my boyfriend. Max Ehrich. Alex doesn't know about us dating yet.

"Hello, babe." I said as I answered.

"Hi, baby." Max replied.

"What is my hunk of a man up to?" I asked.

"Nothing much. Just missing you." Max answered.

"I miss you more!" I argued.

"Have you seen the videos online of Alex recently?" Max asked. He sounded slightly worried which concerned me. I love how he worries about Alex, even though they haven't met.

"No? Why? Is it bad?" I asked as I pulled out my laptop and turned it on.

"You might want to look at one of the videos. It's not good."

"I'm looking right now." I went onto YouTube and saw video after video, all titled remotely the same Alexis Grace Lovato Harms For Attention.

"I have to get going." I told Max quickly and hung up.

I pressed play on the video and it started off with Trevor saying she didn't love Alex. Him and this girl rolled up Alex's sleeves and showed off her cuts to the ENTIRE school. The cuts looked fresh. What dick heads.

I sighed and wondered why people are so cruel to each other now a days. We're supposed to build each other up, not tear each other down. I immediately started worrying about Alex. She's locked in her room by herself.

I ran upstairs and grabbed the key to Alex's room from my dresser. I unlocked my door and saw her curled up in a fetal position and sleeping.

I saw Alex's bandaged arms and the blood was seeping through. I gasped quietly and went to get some fresh bandages. My poor baby. She doesn't deserve this. I kept thinking to myself. I gently removed her used bandages, trying not to wake her.

"Mom?" Alex asked quietly and stirred a bit.

"Go back to sleep, baby girl." I whispered as I was disinfecting Alex's cuts. She let out a noise of pain because the stuff stings. "I'm sorry, baby." I cooed before she fell back asleep.

I finished bandaging her cuts and I laid down next to Alex. I wrapped my arm around her and held her in my embrace. I don't completely trust her alone right now.

Alex's POV
I woke up and smelled the familiar scent of my Mom's perfume.

"Mom?" I asked quietly as I looked at Mom.

"How are you feeling, baby girl?" Mom asked in a sympathetic tone.

"I don't know.." I whispered.

"Tell me what's going on in your mind." Mom said as she held me in her embrace.

"I don't know.. I guess.. I'm just wondering what I did to deserve this. Why did he act like he loved me? Why did he show the entire school my cuts? Why did my father hate me? Why did he take my innocence?" I asked as I was on the verge of crying.

"People in this world are cruel, baby girl. No matter how much we speak up and stand out, nothing is going to stop them from being so cruel. We have to show them that we're better than them and all of that. We have to rise above. You can rise above them, baby girl." Mom spoke gently.

"Like a skyscraper." I smirked and smiled as I looked Mom in the eyes.

"Yes, like a skyscraper, baby girl." Mom replied.

"Can you sing to me, Mama?" I asked.

"You don't have to ask. Just tell me and I'll do it." Mom said and then started singing.

Skies are crying, I am watching
Catching teardrops in my hands
Only silence, as it's ending
Like we never had a chance
Do you have to make me feel like
There's nothing left of me?

You can take everything I have
You can break everything I am
Like I'm made of glass
Like I'm made of paper
Go on and try to tear me down
I will be rising from the ground
Like a skyscraper, like a skyscraper

As the smoke clears, I awaken
And untangle you from me
Would it make you, feel better
To watch me while I bleed?
All my windows still are broken
But I'm standing on my feet

You can take everything I have
You can break everything I am
Like I'm made of glass
Like I'm made of paper
Go on and try to tear me down
I will be rising from the ground
Like a skyscraper, like a skyscraper

Go run, run, run
I'm gonna stay right here,
Watch you disappear
Yeah-oh, go run, run, run
Yeah, it's a long way down
But I am closer to the clouds up here

You can take everything I have
You can break everything I am
Like I'm made of glass
Like I'm made of paper, oh-oh
Go on and try to tear me down
I will be rising from the ground

Like a skyscraper, like a skyscraper
(Like a skyscraper)
Like a skyscraper, like a skyscraper
