It had been months since I drove from Los Olivos to Los Angeles as I wasn't allowed to considering my condition. The car ride was incredibly silent as I chose to be totally alone with my thoughts. The radio was off, and the only sound I could hear was the engine's. Being focused on the road was my priority. I tried my best to push away all those questions that were forcing themselves into my brain... in vain. I couldn't stop thinking of what was so urgent for Hayden and Alice to beg me to come home.

When I parked in the driveway in front of the loft, I felt my heart racing in my chest. I don't even remember what went through my mind during that interval from my car to the front door of the loft. It's like it went black, like the only focus I had was to come inside and find out what happened to my brother.

And this is what I did.

When I opened the metallic door of the loft, I was welcomed by Carl who was heading to the living room with a tray of beverages. He put it back on the counter, and walked to me with open arms.

"Brit," he whispered, resting his chin on top of my head as he gave me a hug. "I'm so glad you're here. We missed you."

"I missed you too," I answered sincerely, even though my eyes were scanning the room to find my brother. "Where's Hayden?"

"In the living room, he-"

Before he could finish his sentence, I broke our embrace and went to the living room to finally be reunited with my brother. When I arrived there, a frown formed on my face at the sight of someone's back facing me - a back I had never seen in my life before. When the person and Alice stepped aside, I finally caught a glimpse of Hayden who was sitting on the couch. The sight of him caused my blood to run cold as he looked in a bad shape. His beard was thick and covered half of his face, while the other half was covered in scratches of all kinds.

"Haze," I whispered, sitting next to him on the couch. "W-What happened to you?" I asked, my eyes filling with tears at that point as the sight of him was unbearable for me to look at.
