Halle

I watched as Red went in the double doors, looking down, before he looked at me straight in the eyes, terrifyingly, "They're here."

I tilted my head in confusion, "Who's here?"

There was a hunch in my head on who he's referring to but his silence and closed fists were enough to confirm my thought.

"That's impossible." I denied the truth to myself.

"I saw them, Halle." His fist silently punched the dining table.

"How would they fucking know that we're here?" We went 5,000 miles away to get away and here they are after three years.

"That's not important." He stated.

"But it is." What has been in my mind since I got the news a minute ago blew out of my mouth, "They're all.... dead."

His eyes turned into darkness when he said the words that changes everything, "It's safer to say that not all are alive."

The next day came and with my cheer uniform topped by my varsity jacket, I walked down the hallway that is unusually quiet. I tried hearing all the murmurs but all I hear are gossips that I already know.

What the hell is going on?

The bell distracted me from the thought and everyone had their stumping feet towards their classes.

I wanted to ask someone about what's going on but unfortunately, the closest person I can talk to in this class is Meg who just lately guilt-tripped me.

Remembering her just reminds me of the guilt that I shouldn't have and the treatment that I definitely don't deserve so I just let myself bore in class.

It's the first half of break time and still, it is seriously quiet. Now, I'm thinking if I'm having some hearing problems or if my abilities are either revolving or worsening.

"Haliana." I turned back to see our principal walking towards me with a happy face that was never seen in years since this high school was in his hands, I guess.

"All varsity training will be cancelled for today." He announced to me which made me wonder why. Seriously, even useful chants are not allowed for this day?

I just nodded in response but I couldn't help from asking, "Why?" Trying my best to sound polite.

"The whole school is being examined and observed," The former and latter words don't differ in meaning and both don't complete the details. There is no way that everyone here will be complying to the school's policy.

"For what?" I started to sound demanding that made the principal wince.

"Safety and cleanliness standards." He answered before leaving me standing alone in the hallway. When was that a thing?

"Have you seen them?" Taffy asked as she sat beside me on our table.

"Who?" Beth and I asked in chorus.

"Uhm, the observers. Duh." She answered before sipping on her juice.

"Is it true? Are they really hot?" Beth asked which made her receive an "Ew," from me.

"Truly. At the same time, they looked so scary, one of them looked at me and I actually ran." That concludes her panting breath when she arrived at our cafeteria spot and her thirst.

Even after last period, everyone was still quiet. Is this some kind of joke?

Because there's no practice today, I can go home early.

I walked to Red's car to find no one in the driver's seat. If only I had a car of my own. I'll get to that soon.

After almost 2 minutes of waiting, he's still not here. Why do I get to search for him?

Finally, there's noise in the parking lot but when I went back inside the building, there's no one there. They must've rushed out to blurt all their kept silence for the whole day.

"Mhm!" My shock blocked my strength when a hand covered my mouth and pulled me to the wall beside the lockers.

Before I completely let myself free, there was a "Shh...." in my ear. I faced the person and saw the other witch. Zack.

"Trust me, okay." His words confused me before I was 100% more confused when he pulled my head and my lips landed on his.

I was gonna let go but then I heard some footsteps together with a conversation.

"She's not here."
"I haven't seen her."
"Are we in the right place?"

When the footsteps were gone, I let go and rolled my eyes away from Zack before glancing past the lockers when I saw three men in their blazers, except the only thing I noticed were the similar tattoos on their napes.

"It's really them. Perturbateurs."
