W3~ Monday and Tuesday
"Hey, what's u-"
"Turn on the news channel." He interrupts.
"Wha-?"
"Turn it on!"
I scramble to my remote control and flick to channel 3.
My eyes widen and my mouth hangs open.
"Is it real?" I whisper over the phone.
My eyes flicker up gaze up at the Tv reading the news headline several times trying to make sense of it. I knew this was gonna happen, but not so soon. What do they even mean?
'Mixed schools and cities experiment over?!'
"He's about to talk." He says in a voice combining worry and anger as one.
The government party stand from there seats and wave at those in the crowd. I roll my eyes at there obsession for publicity. The party contains those of Asian background and those of a Black background- however despite the diversity, segregation is still as clear as day with each ethnicity sitting on opposite sides.
The Asian chairman, An-Ni Li and the black chairman, Abeo deshi, stand and make there way over to the podium each being separate.
My heart beats faster than usual and my breathing increases. My eyes follow theirs and my ears flicker waiting for a sound to break out against the microphones.
"Welcome to all who have joined us in the seated crowd and to those sitting up at home watching from their devices." Chairman Abeo starts.
"You're all probably wondering why both sectors have come together for the first time in two years." He stops to swallow.
"Ten years ago a scientific social experiment began... we tested how bringing Asians and black people together affects society. On December 31st, 11:59pm, 2085 - the experiment results will be justified. From now until December, we will be analysing the progress which will follow up on January 1st 12:00pm."
"This may come across as a shock to people and many must be confused. But I tell you with all truth, the experiment was created to last 10 years. The public were not to know until two months prior to the results."
"I ask you all to remain calm and go on with your normal lives. Nothing has to change just..."
I remove my eyes from the screen and look back at my phone noticing I'm still on the call with Adrian.
I switch the Tv off with one click and fall back onto my back into the big pile of pillows spread out.
"Toffee?" I groan, putting the call on speaker and keep my eyes up on the ceiling.
"Sprinkles." He sighs.
"Do you think the experiment has been successful so far?"
"Honestly, no."
"Me neither, people just don't like to move away from their culture and that's why in school despite it being a mixed school we're still segregated." I yawn.
"Yup, but isn't it weird they bring this up now... they never mentioned it's a 10 year experiment from the start and the whole announcement came out of nowhere."
"Thinking about it now, is it a coincidence they're shutting it down in 10 years?"
"And did you realise that not only chairman An-Ni Li never spoke a word, but his whole sector also kept quiet?"
"Yeah that's weird." I yawn once again, then hear him do the same.
"You're making me yawn." He whines with a raspy voice.
