Sarah and I's friendship started by completely obsessing over each other. I had been hanging out with the band and getting to know them more when we started to record Harry's first album. Sarah and I were getting along extremely well and then things escalated.
"Okay, Sarah, are you ready?" I asked as she sat on her stool by the drums. We were recording her track for Sign Of The Times and while Harry and I had discussed where we wanted the track to go I loved what Sarah brought to the song.
She gave me a thumbs up and I started the track for her. The music was flowing into her headphones but also into the studio where Harry, Mitch and I were sitting. She sounded amazing. I was in-love with the song already but the drums intensified things. It was after the second chorus and into the bridge that Sarah absolutely brought something new into the song and I was here for it.
"Fuck me," I said watching Sarah get lost into the music. Mitch and Harry both busted out laughing at my remark. "Where did you find her?" I said not really caring to receive an answer.
She continued to give her all while she drummed and I swear I fell in love. "I want to marry her," I said resting my chin in my hands looking adoringly at her.
"Me too," Mitch mumbled. He probably thought no one could hear him but I turned my head slightly and raised my eyebrow. Did Mitch like Sarah? If he did I was approving it. I had never seen Mitch more happy than when Sarah was in the room. It was subtle the way his eyes focused on her even after she finished talking. He always spoke with purpose, but with Sarah he wanted to listen more. I wasn't sure he realized how noticeable it was, to me at least.
"Sarah," I said pressing the overhead speaker button once she was done, "I'm in love with you." We all laughed and Sarah leaned down to one of the mics to answer me.
"I'm in love with you too, babes," she winked.
Now, almost three years later and Sarah was happily dating Mitch and happily my best friend. I enjoyed my time with Sarah because she somehow always knew what I was thinking. I didn't have many friends where we completely understood each other, it was literally only her and Harry.
"How's the new album coming along?" She asked taking a sip of her red wine. Mitch was out somewhere and Sarah wanted to cook dinner so she invited me over.
"Slowly coming along, I think I want to release it around May." It was nearing the end of October now so I had plenty of time to finish up the songs I wanted. I was still in the writing process and it felt good making my own music.
"Do you have a track list?"
"Not really," I shrugged. "I have a few songs I know I want on the album but there's still so much I have to say so I'm trying to write as much as I can before I think about the track list."
"Harry showed me the necklace," she said making me blush. "He loves it, I swear he has't taken it off."
"He was looking for one for so long so when I found that one I knew I had to get it for him."
Sarah and I fell into a natural conversation about music, the radio shows they are doing together as a band and her relationship with Mitch. With Sarah things were always easy and natural.
"Three year anniversary with Mitch coming up," I said excitedly watching my friend's eyes light up.
"I love him so much, Cash, it's scary."
"I love the love you two have for each other," I said smiling. They both worked through their bickering and disagreements with such grace. They listened to each other and never raised their voices. It was the healthiest relationship if I'd ever seen one.
