(Mackenzie's POV)

Today Dar was going to take Nolan out to get some clothes while I went to work, then we'd switch at lunch. I was going to miss him all day, but at least we'd have lunch.

I worked through the day until it was finally noon. We broke for lunch and I drove back home. I walked through the door and no one else was here.

I waited about 25 minutes and still no Darry. I cooked lunch and he still wasn't here. After about 45 minutes I was getting worried.

Then he and Nolan walked through the door. "Oh my goodness! Thank God you're okay!" I said running up and hugging them. Darry picked me up so he had me in one arm and Nolan in the other. I giggled and kissed his head.

"I'm sorry that I was late. We were having fun. And I'm really sorry but I have to go." My smile faded a little but I hid it well.
"Okay sunshine. I'll see you later right?" He nodded and kissed my head than Nolan's.
"I love you guys." He said and I responded with an, "I love you too sunshine!" But Nolan shocked us!
"Bye dada love you!" He said while hugging his leg.

I saw Darry tear up and I did too. This was the first time he's called Darry dad! Darry picked him up and spun him around. He pulled me into a hug with him and Nol. Then he handed me our son and kissed me softly.

"Not in front of the kid!" I said jokingly and Darry laughed.
"Alright alright!" He said before leaving.

I hugged Nol and sat on the couch. "So kiddo, you hungry?" I asked and he nodded. I took him to the kitchen where I made him a PB&J. I kissed his head and put a sippy-cup in front of him. He was a clumsy kid which was just like me.

Once we were done eating I picked up Nolan and we walked to the park. I put him in the baby swing and pushed lightly. He giggled the whole time and it warmed my heart.

Around 4:30 I saw Ponyboy and Twobit on their way home from school. I called out to them and they came over. Two instantly picked up Nolan and brought him to the slide.

Me and Pony talked about school and track for him. I told him about what Nolan said to Dar earlier and he smiled.

"That's so sweet!" He said. Soon after I decided it was time for Nolan to go home. He was getting tired and Dar would most likely be home around 7. It was about 6:45 now. I took my boy from Two and we headed home.

"Nolan, you want to read when we go home?" Pony asked and he smiled and nodded. He leaned his head into my shoulder and I could tell Nol was going to sleep soon.

We got home and I set Nol down with Pony and went to my room. As soon as I left his sight Nolan started crying.
"MAMA!!" He called. I was so happy yet heartbroken. I was happy to be called mama, but hearing him cry like that killed me.

I ran back out and picked him up. "What's wrong baby?" He wiped his eyes into my shirt and clung to me.
"Stay w-with me m-mama." He choked out through sobs.
"Okay baby, mamas right here." I held him close and sat down to listen to Pony read. Nolan was out within two minutes. Pony eventually fell asleep too. Soda came through the door and laughed. Then he woke up Pony and dragged him to their room.

I slowly fell asleep holding my boy.
