Chapter 2; The Meeting

<~~The Next Day~~>
I sit on the beach (around the corner of the temple, around the area we first saw Connie, only closer to the water) I stare at the water, I've always been interested in water, I never knew why. Sometimes I feel connected to my mother by the ocean, but whenever I ask my dad about it, he tells me to leave it or gets angry with me. He doesn't like to talk about mother, he drinks all the time to numb the pain. I know he's hurting from mother's death during my birth, and I know he blames me for it. He sometimes talks in his sleep when he gets too drunk, he dreams of mother, and that she's still with him, alive. I've learnt not to anger him anymore, especially when he's really drunk, he sometimes gets, aggressive, but I know he doesn't mean it, he loves me..... right?
I look the bruise on the wrist of my right arm, dad got a bit angry when i came home late yesterday and squeezed my wrist too hard, but I know he still loves me, he just did that because he loves me, he was just worried about me is all
I hear footsteps and quickly hide my bruised wrist in the sleeve of my hoodie, i turn around to see Steven, but there's someone else with him, this may be the heat talking but they look, purple, not their clothes, their skin looks purple, i have to be seeing things right?
"(Y/n)!! Wow, i didn't know I'd see you here today! How are you!?" Steven yells excited
I keep my bruised wrist hidden in my sleeve and my right arm in my lap, making sure he definitely can't see it, he'll only worry.
"Steven! Hello, i didn't either" I say, acting excited, trying to match his energy.
The purple person is behind him, she's small, definitely purple skin, and has long sliver-ish hair
"U-um, Steven i don't mean to scare you, but there's someone behind you, and they're purple" I whisper
"Oh, this is Amethyst, she's a gem" Steven says
'A gem!? Like mother? H-how does he know a gem!? W-wait, is he-?' I think, trying to not show how surprised I am
'Ok (y/n), play it cool, pretend you don't know what a gem is, or Steven will get suspicious of you'
"G-gem? What's a gem?" I ask, pretending I know nothing
"A gem is a magical being from another world, they're people, but like, magcial people, they have gems that they can retreat to when they get hurt too badly, and their bodies are like holograms, but with mass, i guess?" Steven explains to me to the best of his ablities, i try to act as surprised as possibile
"Wowwwww, that's awesome" I say
Amethyst comes up to me
"Hey dude, I'm Amethyst, nice to meet 'cha" Amethyst says
'I have so many questions, does he know any more? When will i meet them? What gems are they? Do they know my mother? Could they give me the answers I'm looking for? Could they help me? I have so many questions but i can't ask any of them, I'm too scared, and if word gets around that I'm half gem then this'll just be another place i don't fit in, Steven is the second person, other than my dad, I've met in my entire life that is friends with me and so far that's only because he doesn't know I'm half gem, I have to keep this secret as long as possible'
I get snapped out of my thoughts and back into reality when Steven calls my name
"(Y/n)! Did you hear what i said?" Steven says, looking at me with a worried expression on his face
"S-sorry Steven, i didn't, i was kinda caught up in my thoughts" I apologise
"I said i was half gem" He repeated
"W-what......."
'i didnt want to believe, he couldn't be, he doesn't look like one, how is this possible?'
Steven lifts his shirt to show a pink quartz gemstone where his bellybutton should be, i stare at it, i lean closer and tap it, using my right hand, completely forgetting about my bruise
"Um, (y/n), what's that on your wrist?" Steven asks concerned
Amethyst, who wasnt really paying attention, peeks over Steven's shoulder to see what he was referring to, i quickly hide it again before Amethyst saw as well
'I messed up.....'
"Oh, i, um, accidentally closed my bedroom door on my wrist, i'm ok though, don't worry about me" I quickly answer, i've become quite good at coming up with lies and excuses, this isn't the first time something like this has happened.
Steven doesn't seem to believe me but goes along with it cause he can see i don't want to talk about it
"Sorry, i should be going now, my dad is waiting for me, see ya" I say, quickly getting up and walking away fast, but not fast enough to be called speed walking or cause suspicions
'I'm an idiot.....'

Sorry this chapter is shorter than the first one, I kinda wrote both chapters at like 2:30am because I'm not tired, i like to write longer-ish chapters, and i usually hate to end on a cliffhanger or like i did with this chapter without writing another chapter but i really should sleep now, haha, i have school tomorrow, i promise to write another chapter tomorrow (i live in Australia btw so Australian times here) and if i don't I'll write a notice on when i estimate another chapter should be out by, i have so many ideas for this book and i hope you like it, i tried really hard, it's not getting to the juicy parts, and it's not exactly living up to the 'Garnet x Gem (Fem) Reader' title just yet, but i have so much stuff to explore before introducing a garnet x reader relationship (there will be moments and stuff, but i wont give them a relationship just yet, just be patient, i believe this story might have some potential and i want to try to explore it.
