"Ambbberrrr!" Now, normally when I decide to kiss a guy, I don't get this sort of reaction from my best friend. Dane looked half-amused and was blushing while I only rolled my eyes and looked back at her. "Yeah?" I casually asked. "I can't believe you're in here!" She screamed in a tone that I couldn't quite make out. Maybe she's surprised to see me? I'm not. This whole hospital thing happens most of the time. I'm either at school, home, church, or the hospital. "I texted you, of course i'm in here again." I tried to reply as casual as possible considering she just walked in on the whole lip locking experience. "Oh right, I just thought you'd be sleeping or something." She offhandedly said. "Nah, I'm eating and hanging out with this dummy." I told her, nodding towards Dane who just happened to be sitting on my bed now. "So we're back to the name calling?" He taunted. "You know you secretly like it, Dane." I told him proudly. "Ugh, fine you win." He said, smiling widely. This stale, cold, very white hospital room could be a really depressing, and it usually is, but in this moment, I can't wipe the smiles off of my face. "Ahem?" Lizzy interrupted. "Sorry, I love you." I told her nonchalantly. "I texted my family, where are they?" I asked, thinking out loud. "Right here, love!" I heard Harrison exclaim. "Harrison! How's your day been?" I asked, excitedly. "Oh it was absolutely wonderful until I received your depressing text." He replied. "Oh, I'm sorry. Luckily, Dane here was able to call the hospital people." "Hello Dane," Harrison said to him. "Oh and it's Lizzy...right?" Harrison asked, turning to the tall, brunette. "Yep!" She replied, popping the 'p'. "Well, I'm glad this little reunion is happening, but y'all I really need a nap." I declared suddenly, feeling the wave of dreams start to sweep over me. "You're seriously like a newborn." I heard a new voice say from the doorway. "Luke, glad you can join this little party in my room." I said to him, smiling. "Who's this?" He asked, literally pointing obnoxiously at Dane. "You people. This is Dane, he probably saved my life because I had an 'attack of the killer headache' and he called the ER." I told them all, getting kind of annoyed. "Do you have any more questions before I fall asleep?" I asked, bluntly. I also could've been a tad more polite with the execution of the sentence, but oh well. "Nah, we'll let you go." Harrison said, walking towards me and planting a small kiss on my forehead. "Sleep tight, love." He said sweetly. "Night!" "I guess we'll head out, you loser." Lizzy told me, with her arm now around Luke's waist. "Yeah we totally have plans that I'll find out later on." Luke added. "Okay whatever, you guys have fun. Just remember: No babies until after college." I added, on a serious note. "Ugh
Amber, for a church girl- your mouth doesn't seem to 'churchy'." Lizzy pointed out, jokingly of course. "You're way too full of stereotypes, my dearest companion." I told her in my best British accent. "Well, I'm going to take my stereotype self and my dummy out to a food place." She told me, bowing right before stepping out of the door. "THIS MEANS I'M QUEEN NOW, RIGHT????" I screamed after her. "Whatever you say, Amber!" She called, her voice slowly fading until she was out of range. "Sooo...." Dane started. " Sooo...would kissing be completely crazy right now because....?" I started to say, but Dane already had my cheeks cupped in his hands and was bringing his lips down to mine. He tasted so sweet and every time my lips touched his, my body reacted as if flames were lit all around me. He's gentle but passionate with his kisses and it's beautiful. Coming up for air I whispered, "You're good at this. Should I be worried?" I asked. "No, not one bit." he replied before lowering his lips back down to mine. I started to smile and he simply pulled back again and looked at me. "Something wrong?" He asked. "Nah, I'm just happy." I told him. "Well, I'm glad. Speaking of happy, Amber, what's your biggest wish in the world?" He asked. "Well, I really want Nate to get better. What about you?" I asked.
"I wish to be happy one day with a girl and good food to come home to every day."
"How poetic, Dane."
"Oh, I know. I'm pretty amazing and stuff." He replied.
"Not to mention modest."
"That's one of my best qualities, Amber dearest." He told me,flashing a smile as big as Texas.
"Well, are you good at running?" I asked him.
"I run varsity track, of course I am."
"Let's go for a run then." I proudly told him.
"With you wearing that" He asked, pointing towards the hospital gown.
"Nah, I have clothes to change into. Give me 5 minutes."
"What happened to taking a nap?" He asked.
"I just wanted them all to leave, quite frankly. They were way too loud and my head was hurting." I admitted.
"Okay miss queen, I'll be back in 5 minutes and then we can go for a run." He told me.
"Hurry back?" I asked, smiling.
"I'll try my best." he said before placing a quick kiss on my lips and heading out of the door.
"Wait!" I screamed.
"Yeah?" He asked, popping his head back in.
"Could I use your phone and call Lizzy while you go get dressed as well?" I asked, smiling really big, trying to look a tad more cute than I actually do.
"Sure." He said, handing me the phone.
"Thank youuuuu! You're seriously the best."
"I know." He replied, winking.
"See you soon." I told him, smiling widely.
Exactly 5 minutes later Dane showed back up wearing athletic shorts and a t-shirt. I was wearing the same thing, but my shorts were a tad shorter and I was in a tank- top type thing. "Amber, how are you planning to sneak out of here?" He asked with great curiosity. "You see, it's kind of like a James Bond movie or an episode of Gossip Girl. We tell a small fib and run as fast as we can away from this place or we sneak around the back-ish hallways and make a mad get away in your car." I explained, using my hands to kind of make diagrams. "Okayyyyyyy. Let's wing it?" He suggested. "Okay then." I said, affirming it. He held out his hand and I grabbed it enthusiastically.
10 minutes later we were standing in front of my house smiling at the fact that we escaped from the hospital unseen. "Are you ready to get your butt kicked?" I asked, proudly. "Don't count on it, hot-stuff." He told me, winking. "Where are we going to run to exactly?" He asked, curiously. I understand that he's curious, but the fact that I'm outside makes me happy. I can smell the freshly-cut grass along with the local cookies being baked in a nearby house. The sky is a beautiful shade of ocean blue, while the trees dance together with the wind as a girl would dance with her mother. "Amber...?" He asked slowly. "It's beautiful, isn't it?" I asked, profoundly. "I guess so."
"You guess?" I asked him.
"Yeah, it's just a sunny day." He replied, nonchalantly.
"No, God created all of this so beautifully. He planted every single one of these trees here and the wind is blowing and even if my hair is blowing all over my face, nobody realizes how beautiful nature really is until they're cooped up all day." I explained.
"I'm not really all that much of a church person, Amber. I don't do the whole religion thing. I mean there's something out there, but I'm not sure what. I'm sorry." He told me, looking down at the ground.
"It's okay. Maybe one day you can come to church with me." I suggested.
"Yeah, maybe. Are we going to run or not?" He asked, completely changing the mood.
"Sure, let's go." I told him, grabbing his hand and leading the way.
