"what's your test all about? math, right?" jeongwoo started as he finished settling then gave a piece of textbook towards haruto's direction, which haruto gladly took and opened.
haruto nodded in response after a short while, somehow startled after jeongwoo's correct guess, but then remained composed anyway.
"trigonometry," haruto specified, giving jeongwoo a clue to what specific topics he needs to discuss.
haruto expected him to at least be startled at the given topic he knew was hard to handle with but then later was taken aback when jeongwoo just gave him a nod while his attention was all through the book.
"what's your course?" jeongwoo asked once again, his eyes strolling through the page content to look for trigonometry.
his eyes haven't met with haruto just yet, but he could already felt his gaze through his peripherals whilst hearing haruto hum before responding. "engineering."
jeongwoo nodded after hearing the answer, obviously taking the answer for granted after knowing the amount of math topics he needs to work.
but one thing intrigued jeongwoo, he then looked up with a confused expression that also rendered haruto to feel the same as him.
"engineering? then why do you need me to teach you maths?" jeongwoo couldn't help but ask, knowing that this would have been a sensitive question to ask someone who's still a stranger.
he expected him to frown, scowl at him for asking a stupid question that underestimated his intelligence yet he just flashed him an amused smile.
"i know. ironic, isn't it? i never really liked taking engineering, but my father forced me," haruto chuckled after that, his hands playing and intertwined with each other which was rested on top of the table as he continued to stare with jeongwoo's eyes.
there's something, at least jeongwoo had thought. "force" as the answer was at the very bottom of the list he expected haruto to respond. he expected him to say, "because i want to," or a "because its interesting."
jeongwoo stared at him for a short while and noticed something hiding beneath the small sparkles on his eyes. sadness, perhaps?
he then heard haruto heave a slight laugh, one that would be heard to at least ease the awkwardness.
"lets not talk about it. what about you? same question," haruto changes the topic as he scanned the menu resting on the side of the table to get some drink.
"medicine," jeongwoo responded, turning the page to 61 of the textbook to arrive at the trignometry section and scanned it for a while. he then felt something again, like hsruto watching him in front.
"medicine? expensive," haruto replied, now his turn to be somehow perplexed.
medicine is a good course, sure, but he wondered if jeongwoo could handle the fees or something? not to belittle his status, of course. but he couldn't help to wonder as to why he chose such a costly course.
"it is. that's why im trying hard to at least earn some money. and that is the reason why im teaching you right now, haruto. medicine is what i want, so i have to work hard for it."
jeongwoo flashed a small smile at the thought for his determination and passion to graduate from college despite the hardship he had on finance.
at that moment he thought that maybe haruto had it sasy because he always had money and status, one that would easily acquire certain things from this world with ease.
"you're lucky, you could push through whatever you want."
