Hayden: Ah, sleeping Beauty awakes!
I grin.
Me: Actually, I've been awake ages.
Jason: That's true.
He opens the fridge door to find something to eat.
Hayden: Did you enjoy the cookies I left you?
Me: Very much. Thanks Hayden.
Hayden: Its okay. Now, I just wanna say Em, that getting high like that --
Me: Was irresponsible. I know.
Hayden: I was gonna say awesome. Right at the end of the school day?
He laughs.
Hayden: You're taking after me.
Me: Honestly, I wish I never smoked the thing.
Hayden: Why? You're young, it's fine to get curious.
Me: Yeah, well, my first time getting stoned shouldn't have been because I wanted to numb myself from Will. It should of been for the shits and giggles. Y'know, pissing about with my mates.
Hayden looks alarmed. Uh oh.
Hayden: Wills to blame? Jason! You didn't tell me that!
Jason spins around.
Jason: Hey! Don't start on me, it wasn't my business to tell! Plus anyway, I didn't really know until Em told me!
Mum: Em told you what? What you all shouting about?
Shit Shit shit.
Hayden: Nothing.
Mum: It sounded like you were arguing.
Me: They are just having a bit of a disagreement regarding--
Jason: Pasta! Mum, we really need some pasta! I was thinking of cooking Bolognese tonight and there's none in the cupboard.
Mum frowns.
Mum: Oh? A Bolognese sounds great, I'll shoot up the shop, shall I?
Jason: You don't mind, mum?
She smiles.
Mum: Of course I don't Jase. I'll just go change into my trainers then I'll go up.
She leaves the kitchen.
Hayden: Please don't tell me you're actually cooking.
Jason: What would be the issue if I was?
Hayden: You can't cook for shit.
Jason: Well lucky for you, I just said that to get mum off our back. Happy?
Hayden grins.
Hayden: Very.
Me: That was seriously a close call. If mum found out --
Hayden: Relax, she won't ever find out.
Jason: Mark our words.
I smile gratefully at my two brothers.
*Next day*
Jason: Right, canteen, do you want anything?
Me: Umm no, I'll get something at break.
Jason: Okay fair enough, I'll be right back.
He leaves and I stay waiting in the corridor.
