"John, you don't want a war with me"

"Tell Travis to get in here now."

There was something going on and I was going to find out. Charlie was in a rush to get out of the country and a voicemail I just received may explain why. She's not consulting with me. She's just leaving me out of the loop. This isn't like her.

"What's up bro?" Travis greeted me.

"Where have you been?"

"Making a play. We found that witness." "What witness? What the fuck could he have possibly witnessed?" I felt clueless. Everyone was making moves without me.

"Mark and I went to Baltimore a year ago. We were in over our heads and Charlie bailed us out making sure you didn't find out. He can identify us."

"Are you fucking stupid?" I was too frustrated to efficiently curse him out the way I wanted.

"Charlie's fixing it. I'm fixing it."

"What does this have to do with John Kei? Why is he 'happy I changed my mind and will see me soon'?"

"That, I don't know bro. But there is something else we have to handle. The crooked cop. He's been in and out of the DA's office for a few days. Charlie has been having Mark tail him. We're all under a microscope now. I don't know how we can get it done."

"What are they saying on the news right now?"

"I'm not sure. Turn it on real quick."

I flipped through all of the news stations until I found one with an update.

"Hopefully they don't lose them for good. It's been reported that Charlie and Tyler Jones left the country yesterday afternoon. Apparently to Indonesia."

That's why John Kei was calling me. Why the fuck do they think I'm in Indonesia? Who was she there with really? I felt my blood boiling, feeling betrayed.

"I don't know what Charlie is on bro. She's never given us a reason not to trust her. She's intentional and calculated so this has to be for a reason. She called me and had the witness's address. She used a dude he grew up with to get it. That's all I know."

I pondered a thought and smiled as an idea popped into my head. Travis was right. Charlie is very intentional. Just when I thought my wife had turned her back on me. She was still always the smartest person around.

"I think she's still using him. Don't worry about the cop. I'll get it done."

"How? Like I said, we're under a microscope."

"I'm in Indonesia. Remember?"
