It had been a few weeks since I had met Charlie and Tyler's kids. I spent the week there with her and them. It was rough at first I wasn't going to lie. Tyler's kids were more receptive, but Zaiyr was still hesitant. We were all pretty cool though. I surprisingly hung out the most with Tj. I got my ass beat by Zaiyr on the game while Tj made me be a guinea pig for several of his experiments. I have a chemical burn on my left elbow, but I let him make it for the sake of science I guess. Taegan wasn't a tea party kind of a girl. She was very much a little tomboy. Me and the boys took turns training her for her soccer game. I could definitely start to see why Charlie had a hard time killing their dad. After meeting them I knew that would be out of the window for good. No matter how much I hated him.
I had seen Tyler twice throughout my stay in Houston. Once when he brought the kids and then again at Taegan's soccer game. It had only been a week but the time I spent helping Taegan had me invested in her game. Charlie and I were screaming the loudest. Tyler didn't acknowledge my presence. I think he knows what he did was fucked up. Him killing our baby didn't tear us apart so he had no choice but to let us be. I was nervous as fuck about playing a step-dad type role so I reduced it to big homie. I wasn't quite ready to discipline and all of that yet. They looked at me like I was a big old kid. Shit I felt like one. I didn't have a father figure example or a guide to teach me, so I was winging it. We had a long way to go but the permanent smile that had been on Charlie's face lately, let me know we were doing something right. This thing between us was worth it.
I couldn't lie though. I was overcompensating a lot because I wanted her to be this receptive when Mya had the baby. I wanted to be really involved in my child's life and I hope she can respect that and trust me.
I had been letting Toine stay at the condo I had rented, because me and Charlie had been staying at her house. Wherever either one of us went, the other followed. We hadn't spent a day apart since we decided to really take each other seriously.
"Babe." I said nudging Charlie to wake her up. Clingy Charlie was a lot. She slept on me, had to be on me in some type of way at all times, and hated if I had to leave. Compared to the Charlie that ran away this was an adjustment, but I liked it. It felt like she needed me in some type of way.
"Huh?" She groaned not budging. "I have to go to this appointment with Mya. I think we get to hear the heartbeat or some shit today." That made her sit up. "You have to go right now?" She asked pouting. "Yea babe. I'm going to pick her up." I chuckled at her face. "Let me up shor."
She took her time sliding off of me. "Your ass is spoiled as hell." I laughed and she just smiled. "Well I'll be here I guess. I'm working on a big deal so I'll get started on it while you're out." She said grabbing her MacBook. "Ok I'll take my time then." I replied smirking.
