Dean tells Sam to get over you after a breakup, which Sam was taking badly

(1103 Words)

Third Person POV:

Sam was doing his usual lost puppy face, he always thought that love in the movies was unrealistic. The thought of not being able to function after losing someone was ridiculous to him. He believes it now.

Y/N had broken up with Sam a month ago, she didn't want to, no one thought she would but she did. She had a good reason and Sam knew it better than anyone. Sam never indulged anyone in the knowledge of why. He was ashamed. It was all his fault. Y/N for months had warned him that she wasn't as happy as she used to be. Sam ignored her, he continued the way he was even when she asked on multiple occasions for him to change. She wasn't wrong, she had every right to ask Sam to change his behaviour. She didn't want him to change his whole personality she just asked that he stop the cruel jokes that were aimed at her. She told him on numerous occasions that she didn't think it was funny and it upset her. Thinking back on it Sam doesn't know why he said them or why he refused to stop. Now he has to live with it. Y/N was always the type to say something and stick to it. No one could ever call her bluff because she never had one. She saw no point in lying. The only time she was proven wrong she wasn't really.

She had threatened a man, claimed that if he hit his son again she would kill him. When she was close to catching him he attempted to take his own life, she was proven wrong for the first time but she corrected it. She resuscitated him back to life just to kill him. Everyone thought she was crazy but she found it very satisfactory. Dean always joked that her biggest kink was being right and never once did she correct him. It wasn't necessarily true but she did find much satisfaction in it.

Dean walked into Sam's room which he now called the sulking sanctum. Y/N would have found it funny but Sam ignored him.

"Sammy, you have to get on with your life, you can't live like this!" Dean urged as he began tidying a little mess to make the mountain look smaller. Sam was normally the tidy type but without Y/N he saw no point in anything. After a lot of arguing and a little hitting Sam was in the car with Dean. Dean drove to Bobby's in an attempt to work a case and get Sam's mind away from the love he lost. Dean blasted the music refusing to look at Sam as he sulked in his seat. Looking out the window like he was in a music video, Dean considered crashing the car just to distract Sam but he couldn't do that to his baby.

Bobby opened the door as they climbed out of the car. Dean figured he was worried about them both as it had been a while but Bobby yanked Sam into a hug, he could have sworn Bobby was crying but he chalked it down to miss seeing it. Sam was confused. They weren't really the hugging type, he even wondered if Bobby was crying but as he sobbed slightly hugging him Sam knew for sure. Everything the boys could imagine making Bobby cry was outrageous.

Bobby pulled away to hold Sam at arm's length away, his tears falling, his eyes puffy and skin blotchy. "You don't know?" He asked confusing Sam. Sam's mind went blank, what could possibly make Bobby cry that he already knew about.

"Y/N's dead," Bobby explained slightly confused and offended. Bobby was sure Sam would know, he thought of Sam as heartless for being dry-eyed. Sam's claimed to love here yet here he stood before Bobby looking like it was any other day. In reality, Sam had no idea. Sam was hiding in his room so long he never heard. Dean's plan to distract Sam had completely flown out the window breaking the glass in the process. Dean rubbed his eyes as he walked away, Y/N's death was a shock to him, she was always right and yet she lied to him. She had told him that she was so stubborn and bitter that she's die at 90 years old. Yet the news came and she died just weeks after telling Dean.

Sam's world shattered around him, it was an ugly sight to see. He fell to the floor, he wept so loud everyone who could hear wondered how he would talk in the morning, he practically screamed when he had air in his lungs. He gripped his hands in his hair pulling to let out his frustration. His eyes tight shut tears somehow easily escaping. Bobby had knelt beside him and held him where he sat. Dean had never seen Sam this way, he wasn't even sure if he had seen anyone this heartbroken ever. Dean felt like an intruder in the private moment and decided to take a walk to give them some space. Sam didn't have the strength to stand till hours later, his lungs burning, eyes stinging and throat hoarse. He had barely the strength to hold himself up, Bobby took most of his weight as he guided him inside, swearing to look after him till he was better. Death was a sickness, it infected and affected everyone but it seemed to hit Sam hard. He couldn't believe it. He thought she was too good to die, too pure and too badass to be killed and yet Bobby explained the whole thing. Sam wasn't sure if it made him feel worse knowing or made him feel better with the realisation that no one who is human is immortal.

Y/N's death was a hard thing for Sam. She was on a hunt they were supposed to do together, she went alone due to the breakup and she didn't stand a chance, she would always go into hunts with a plan and determination but this time she went in with a heavy heart and blurred eyes from her crying. Sam blamed himself, if he hadn't have said that one joke he couldn't even remember then she wouldn't have gone alone, they would still be together and he might have saved her. He has to live with this.

The burden of knowing he might as well have been the one who stabbed her because either way, he killed her.
