At tails's lab

"there isn't anything I can find on the scanner sonic" tails admitted sadly, looking at his tablet

When the three had gotten back tails soon got to work, scanning and doing tests on knuckles to see what damages there could possibly be

Knuckles was put to his temporary bed as the two conscious beings waited for the results

But this had been 5 hours ago, so sonic decided it was time to check on his teammate

"I'm gonna check on knuckles, tell me if you find anything" sonic announced as he sped up the stairs

Sonic slowly opened the door to knuckle's temporary room

Inside he could hear slightly heavy breaths, yet did not see any trace of the echidna himself

(somethings up) sonic said to himself as he got closer to the bed

As he came closer, he noticed something. That underneath the duvet, instead of a large shape of his teammate, there was a rather little lump in his place

"knuckles?" sonic asked with hesitation

Getting no response, he began to shakily lift up the cover

There he revealed a sight that shook him to his core

A small crimson echidna cub with his limbs tucked into it's body like a turtle, along with long dread locks and spiked knuckles laid in the place where knuckles should have been

The only traces of his friend were large specially made mittens (too close to the baby's head) and socks and shoes at the end of the bed

Slowly but carefully sonic began to pick up the baby up whilst trying not to scream and/or laugh

(I need tails now!) sonic thought in panic

While the fox himself heard slow footsteps on the stairs

That enough told him that something was of

"hey sonic, is knuckles o..k-" tails began to ask, but when he was met with the blue blur holding a baby echidna to his chest, tails honesty had no words

"yeah...so I think I know what that machine does" sonic laughed sheepishly
