(Just to make this clear, monsters don't dust in this)
Night looked around the hazy scape, his eyes trying to tell what was in the darkness as he continued walking through. His eyes glanced to his left and then to his right, his soul-beat speeding up slowly as he hugged himself tightly.
His footsteps echoed gently through the black void and he internally shivered as he noticed a light fast approaching. He quickly came to a stop where the darkness and the light met, his gaze landing on a forest.
Trees sheltered the sky and leaves rustled in the gentle wind, hardly a sound was heard. It wasn't until his eyes landed on the body that he froze.
Everything around him seemed to hazy and unreal but the body... the body was so vivid. Guts sprawled out onto the ground as lifeless eyes starred at him. The body's hands keep their loose grip on the ground as the face continued to hold the same frightened expression as before.
Night couldn't help but to gasp, taking a step back into the darkness, somewhat comforted by its embrace. His hand came to cover his mouth as tears flooded his eyes, blurring the vision of blood and gore in front of him.
Hot tears slipped down his cheeks as his gripped his shirt his other hand, his legs threatening to crumble beneath him. He nearly broke if it wasn't blurry sight of the black beast approaching slowly, but what really caught his attention... it spoke.
"My my... look at this mess you made," It cooed, it's voice warped and echoing.
Night choked back a sob, "I.. I didn't mean to... it was an accident I swear, I only meant to scare him away!" More tears rolled down his face.
"Relax," the cougar huffed, placing it's paw on the body's head allowing its claws to dig into its eyes. Night held back any noise he would've made. "Such fragile things, monsters and humans are..."
Night stayed silent, his legs finally crumbling letting him fall to the ground. His hands pressed into the grass and dirt and he lowered his head, "If your going to beat me, kill me or rape me... please just do it already..."
The cougar's slight grin faltered and it seemed to almost stutter over, sure it was a killer but what. "Why do you think I would do something like that?" It questioned with a tilted head.
Night gripped the ground roughly, his tears slowly as his squeezed his eyes shut. "I'm planning of killing myself anyway, what's the point? You'll just be another person to violate me..."
The cougar let out a low snarl, getting off the body and slowly padding up to the skeleton. "What are you? A coward?!" It seethed, fur bristling.
Night flinched at its voice, his body tensing in preparation for a strike yet in never came, instead he was hit with the warm feeling of fur.
Cracking open an eye he came to the sight of the cougar gently rubbing its head against him. While Night had only just stopped crying he couldn't help but let more tears prick his eyes as he wrapped his arms around the cougar's neck, causing it to freeze up slightly. Before he knew it he was once again sobbing, his face nestled into the beast's obsidian fur.
The cougar only sat there, letting the boy cry before it let out a sigh. "Let's make a deal." That caught Night of guard.
Letting out a few hiccups as he rubbed away the tears from his eyes, he let go of the cougar his purple eyes meeting its blue ones. "A deal..?" He spoke unsurely.
The cougar nodded, licking its fur clean of the tears that had recently soaked it. "I will stay with you for one week, in return, you cannot commit suicide until the week is over."
Night thought it over for a few seconds before deciding, "D.. Deal, what should I call you then?"
The cougar grinned, "Call me Mare."
Slowly he opened his eyes, the lack of warmth causing him to wake up. His eyes scanning his surroundings lazily until he warily came face to face with the black cougar. Out of sheer sleepiness, Night reached his hand up, gently scratching the cougar behind its ear.
The cougar moved its head away causing the monster to let out a whine, "Maaaaare..."
Mare halted and huffed, finally allowing the hand to scratch his ear. He wouldn't lie that it was pleasing but he would never admit to that.
Night smiled at him lazily before sitting up and rubbing the sleep from his eyes. Mare only huffed at his sleepy attitude before walking outside, soon returning only to drop a dead rabbit in Night's lap.
Night jumped as the semi-warm body made contact with his lap, only to sigh at the realization of what had to be done. "Fine, I'll skin it, but I get the good bits."
Mare let out a growl at that, huffing sharply.
"Hey, you may have caught it but I'm the one who has to gut and skin it now move out of the way." Night retaliated, getting out of the tent with the rabbit in hand.
Huffing, he plopped onto the ground, summoning one of his bones knives before he began to skin it. He had hunted before and skinned things before, but rarely had to kill things, mainly cause he learned to make snares and traps that would kill the animals instantly.
Once the pelt was off he began the gutting process, setting the guys to the side only for them to be picked up by Mare. "You're very disgusting," Night joked, "haven't you ever heard of the five-second rule? I'm pretty sure that was more than five seconds."
Mare tilted his head at him slightly before seeming to laugh, being reminded of one of his followers. Night smiled at him gently, finally managing to get the good pieces of meat before hobbling himself back to the fire.
Cooking it carefully he kept an eye on the meat, a good thing indeed so he didn't have to witness Mare scarf down the rest of the carcass.
Humming, Night took the now cooked meat away from the fire, eating happily as Mare approached him. Flopping down next to him, the cougar huffed and Night knew what it was asking.
"We'll go back tomorrow, I'd like to spend today in the woods." Night smiled, happily eating his food before throwing his now cleanish shirt and crown on. Dream would be salty about it.
