Night yawned softly, stretching out his limbs in attempt to rid the aching in his arms and legs. His eyes drooping slightly. He looked up to see Mare still asleep above him, a smile gracing his face as an unfamiliar feeling tugged at his chest.
He ignored it, moving to finally stand up and doing a full stretch, his arms raising above his head like an excited child. The soft pops coming from his back told him he had relieved some tension.
Flopping his arms back to his side he rolled his shoulders, shaking off a small wave of drowsiness. As he began to fix his clothes, a gentle meow caught his attention.
He looked up to be faced with sparkling deep sea blue eyes. A quartet of black paws thumped onto the ground and Night felt the cat's warm body press against his leg.
The skeleton hummed, kneeling down to pick up the cat, allowing the feline to climb onto his shoulders. Mare mewled at Night softly, as if asking him a question, Night only assumed he was asking about his soon to be location.
"We're going to the library, it's Sunday." Night answered.
Mare tilted his head, 'He goes to the library every Sunday? Could it have something to do with the villagers?'
Night hummed, starting down the hill with a soft smile as he rubbed behind Mare's ear. Mare let out a purr before looking back at the tree, meowing once again.
"Dream is most likely with his friends, y' know, Rainbow Trash and Little Boy Blue." Night answered his question and Mare huffed, silently proud of the nicknames.
Night's feet dragged a bit as the grass turned into hard cobblestone, his shoes clicking against it slightly. Mare took notice of how hardly anyone was around, 'Something must happen every Sunday.'
Night's body was a bit more relaxed as they walked down the street, Mare took note that he wasn't eyeing everything in his line of sight. Instead, Night was looking forward, not ducking his head down.
Finally, Night took a turn in front of the local library, it seemed to be one of the few places open. He opened the door slowly, the bell above it dinging, signaling he had entered.
His eyes wandered the nearby shelves of books, glancing over covers from afar.
He was soon greeted by his name being called, his attention turning to an elderly lady sitting at the front desk. She was a goat monster, a very pretty one indeed.
"Hello, Ms. Toriel." Night greeted her, walking up to the desk with a smile.
The goat woman gave a gentle hum, "My my, who's this handsome boy you brought with you?"
"This is Mare," Night grinned, letting the obsidian cat jump off his shoulder and onto the desk. "I met him about two days ago, he's very nice."
The cat let out a gentle meow, leaning away from Toriel's hand when she held it out to him, "Is he shy?"
"I don't think so, I think he has a preference when it comes to pets." Night hummed, picking Mare up and holding him like one would a child. The cat huffed, climbing back onto his shoulder and nipping him.
"I see, we have a few new books for you to look at take as much time as you need sweetie." The woman smiled. Night nodded, disappearing between the bookshelves, his eyes glancing over titles and covers for anything the catches his attention.
His fingers brushed over the spines of the books gently. The air smelled dusty but it was welcomed as Night got onto his tippy toes to grab a book. He read the title and opened the book at the beginning. He read over the first chapter before smiling.
