Night let out a sharp huff as his legs slowly began to feel numb. His hands slowly petting the warm fur that covered the beast's body in elegant obsidian.

"You know..." Night hummed, the feeling in his legs finally disappearing. "When I asked to pet you I never mentioned anything about laying on my lap."

Mare only responded with a growlish purr, his eyes closed and relaxed as it spread out his large, muscular front legs.

The skeleton let out a whine, "Come on, you're to heavy!"

Mare opened his eyes slightly, peaking at him before he let his body melt.

Night let out a loud yelp, jumping hesitantly as the once large cat was now a large glob of black tarry liquid that slowly began to take form as a small house cat. The monster starred at him wide eyed as Mare only yawned, curling around in his lap.

"You can shapeshift?" Night mumbled under his breath, shivering slightly at the thought.

Mare only nodded, digging his claws into Night gently to tell him to shut up. Night obliged, unsure of how to exactly react to the new found information so he shrugged it off.

The sky darkened once again, rain slowly dripping down as the sun began to set. The two companions where currently heading back to the Tree of Feelings, Mare curled around Night's neck so he wouldn't have to walk.

Night hummed softly they walked, his attention hardly focusing on his surroundings, more focused on the setting sun that was slightly covered by the clouds. The slight pink tint fading from purple and darker until the sky was pitch black. The moon and stars where hidden tonight.

The skeleton grinned, the only light coming from the random moments of lightning followed by thunder. While the rain fell harder, Night only enjoyed it more, he didn't care if he got sick, just meant no one would come near him.

Night looked forwards, feeling Mare rub his head against his chin. "Yes? Is something bothering you?"

Mare let out a mewl, his tail curling around Night's neck as he looked towards the up coming clearing. Night smiled and nodded, scratching Mare behind his ear.

Walking out of the tree-line, Night was met with more rain, more beating down on him due to the
lacking cover of trees.

Mare looked around as Night started his way through the town, noting that he made an attempt not to be noticed and just how tense he had become. Huffing, the monster in disguise kneeded Night's shoulder, feeling him relax ever so slightly.

Multiple pairs of eyes glared at them, their expressions disapproving and filled with unknowing hatred. It made Mare wonder, 'Surely he hadn't done anything if just killing someone made him break down...'

Mare felt Night's body flinch as someone walked a bit to close, bumping into him. Night's eyes squeezed shut as if he expected to be hit, though it never happened the person only spit at him before walking away.

A slow growing hatred began to bubble up, 'What was all this abuse for?' The skeleton flinched at every move and ducked his head at every glare and harsh look, keeping his head down.

Mare knew what punishment was, for he'd dealt many, but this was pure abuse. It made his fur bristle.

Night managed his best to ignore everyone though, finally leaving the village and climbing a hill. Mare knew that tree, he knew it well, for he'd seen it before as well as heard the rumors about it. It was nothing like the rumors though...

The yellow apples were far to bright, even when there has little to no light in the sky. And it smelled far to sweet.

The black on the other hand, they seemed to twinkle like stars reflecting the little light they got, and they smelled so tasty.

Mare let out a purr, jumping off Night's shoulder once they reached the cover of the tree. Night let out a held breath and sat down on the side with the black apples.

He let out a rough sigh, "Dream must be with his friends... guess it's just me and you then."

Mare let out a mewl at that, climbing into Night's lap and curling up. Night's hands brushed his fur, "Are you sure you want to lay with me? My clothes are soaked."

Mare huffed, snuggling into Night's stomach. Night rolled his eyes at the feline, continuing to stroke its fur.

Soon enough the two fell asleep, Night now leaning against the tree with his legs bent semi-close to his chest whistle Mare was curled up between Night's legs and chest.

A hum left Night's mouth as he sat in front of the black feline, "So... you wanted to ask a question?"

Mare nodded to him, "Yes, if you feel like telling me, why do the people of the village treat you like the scum of the Earth?"

Night frowned, averting his eyes from Mare's. "They treat me badly because I'm the guardian of Negativity..."

Mare looked at him wide eyed before letting out a hiss, "Just for that? Are you fucking serious?"

Night nodded silently, flinching at Mare's tone and it was then Mare softened but he didn't say anything.

The silence was suddenly lifted when Mare once again spoke, "What have the done to you?" His voice was filled with silent rage.

Night's eyes met Mare's for a second before weakly whispering, "Death threats, beatings, r...rape."

Mare expected those things but it still angered him, he was unsure as to why he was so enraged at this. He calmed himself down, seeing that Night could obviously sense his anger.

Quietly, he asked another question. "Do you not like being touched, do you have any fears..?"

Night looked at him with soft frown, "I'm fine with being touched... most of the time. I guess... I guess I'm afraid of abandonment..."

Mare nodded, "You know, we have a saying for when it comes to assholes where I'm from."

Night perked up slightly, "Really?"

A sly grin ran across Mare's maw, "Va te faire foutre."

The skeleton was graced with confusion, "Va te faire foutre? Is that French?"

The feline nodded, "Yes, it is. I could teach you some if you'd like."

Night nodded gently, "That sounds pleasant, thank you."

When Dream cane home that night the last thing he expected to see was his brother snuggled up with a cat. Though it was indeed a cute sight the cat unnerved him, giving him an uneasy feeling. There was so much negativity attached to it.

Wait- Did his brother just mumble something in French? In his sleep?

Since when did Night know French? Had he really not been paying that much attention to his brother...?
