After the confession, the game came to an end and Mare pulled Night to their shared room to talk, much to Peewee's dislike.
Despite Mare's early reaction, Night was still nervous as all hell. His face flushed in a soft blush as he fidgeted with his hands, his eyes focused on the ground. A heavy breath rattled through his body when he felt touch against his face, almost leaning towards the hand.
His eyes wandered up, meeting Mare's bright cyan eye that idly held endearing softness. Night quickly looked away, his face flushing a brighter violet and he heard Mare chuckle.
"You're so cute..." Night didn't think his face could get any hotter but he was easily proven wrong. Mare only smiled at his shyness, finding it adorable and somewhat pleasing.
His thumb rubbed Night's cheek, bringing the smaller's attention back to him. "You have nothing to be nervous about." Night opened his mouth to speak but his voice betrayed him. Mare only hummed.
The taller's tendrils curled, few making a move to rub against the smaller. Night leaned towards their touch slightly, eased by the soft ghosting touches that somehow brought reassurance.
"You've yet to reject me..." Night mumbled quietly and Mare tilted his head with a small frown.
"Who said I was going to reject you," Mare's voice was smooth and it sounded almost teasing, but it held gentle assurance, "in fact, who's to say I don't feel the same way."
Night perked a bit at that and Mare smiled, his hand dropping from Night's cheek. Instead, he pulled Night into a hug. The smaller pressed against his chest while Mare's hands rested on his shoulder blade and the middle of Night's back. Night made no move to try and get away, burying his face into Mare's hoodie as his hands gently gripped the slimy fabric.
There was silence, neither moved.
And then... Mare whispered, "Night... I'd love for you to be mine."
Night could only blush but he smiled against Mare's jacket, "I'd love to be yours."
Mare smiled, his body relaxing against Night as he buried his face into his shoulder. Night didn't mind, resting his head against Mare's chest, listening to his soul beat rhythmically.
The two could feel each breath the other took, each small twitch, and never before had they both savored such insignificant actions. Before they knew it, they fell in sync; matching breath for breath and beat for beat.
The two hadn't even realized that they had both closed their eyes, too enveloped in comfort and warmth to take in their actions or surroundings.
Not even the soft patter of water against the window was enough to disturb them, the gentle rain turning into a downpour. The lights flickered yet they never moved an inch, not once. And when thunder crashed outside, lighting illuminating the eternal night sky with a bright yet beautiful glow of white, they didn't flinch.
It was finally when the second crash of thunder was heard that Mare began to pull away, though he kept his hands on the smaller. Night only gripped him harder and Mare smiled fondly.
The taller soon bent down a bit, lifting Night in his arms with ease before setting him down on the bed. Night whined when Mare set him down, only to be cut off when Mare laid down beside him and pulled him to him. The smaller smiled, nuzzling into Mare's chest as he laid on top of him.
Mare hummed contently, resting his hands on Night's back as his tendrils protectively curled above Night's body.
Another crash of thunder and the lights flickered out, washing the castle in the safety of darkness. Mare and Night only relished the dark, enjoying the flashes of lightning that made the darkness flee and replacing it with a gentle glow that made the shadows dance along the walls.
The rain grew heavier as if it demanded to be heard, bringing with it more thunder and lightning. The rain and thunder fell on deaf ears, the sound of Mare humming a soft tune were enough to drown out the sound of Mother Nature. Night enjoyed every bit of it.
Mare's humming made his body lax even more and the short illumination form the lightening was just enough to give Night everything he'd ever wanted. This... being like this, being loved, and being able to love without consequences, such an addictive feeling.
The feeling of Mare's hands on his back was another thing. Night loved Mare's touch with every fiber in his body, he was never given such affection just by touch. It was heaven.
Night tilted his head up a bit, nuzzling himself into Mare's chin with a smile. Mare let out what be described as a 'prrt' of curiosity, resting his head on Night's without a second thought. Night giggled a bit as another flash brightened the room before disappearing.
Mare smiled, pulling him closer to him. "Comfy?"
Night nodded softly before letting out a content sigh, "I don't think I want to move."
"Oh?" Mare chuckled softly, "Well I don't mind, we can stay like this as long as you'd like Puppy."
"That sounds perfect Kitty."
Mare hummed at the nickname, bringing one of his hands up to cupped the back of Night's skull. His other hand unconsciously drew soft circles on the smaller's back. Night just snuggled deeper into Mare's hoodie, once again listening to the gentle beats of Mare's soul.
The tar-covered skeleton starred at him fondly, watching as Night's eye sockets slowly began to slip close. It was only a matter of time before he fell asleep. Mare didn't mind though, instead, he looked out the window and whispered a quiet promise to himself.
His gaze returned to Night, who's breathing softened and evened out. Mare flattened his hand against Night's back and tilted his head down, pressing a gentle kiss against Night's skull. "I'm so happy you're finally mine," Mare softened, "my puppy."
(I cannot even begin to explain how much I enjoyed writing this chapter.)
