"Night..." Dream spoke quietly, his gaze turning to his older twin. He took note of how his brother's fingers ran through the black cat's fur.
Night looked to his brother with a gentle smile, "Yes, Dream?"
"I've realized I haven't been paying much attention to you lately... you often disappear for a week or so and I never know where you're at." Dream said with a concerned tone.
The darker skeleton looked down to the feline in his lap, to which the animal idly huffed. "I go out there to camp, take my mind off things, and get away from the village."
Dream smiled happily at that, "We should go together sometime!"
"Uh... y..yeah." Night mumbled, once again petting the obsidian feline.
"So... I have a few more questions, my first is easy, how'd you find the kitty?" Dream asked with a tilted head.
"I found- he found me, I was sitting by a boulder and he wandered up to me." Night hummed softly, not a complete lie.
Dream nodded, "And how are you getting along with the villagers?"
Night froze at that, his hand twitching and a heavy shiver gliding down his spine. Dream could practically smell the negative energy that escaped his brother.
The cat took notice, getting up on its hind legs to press its front paws against his chest just to rub its head against his chin. Night then snapped out of it and he lifted the cat up, cradling it in his arms.
Dream decided not to press the matter, 'They must be teasing him again.' Dream sighed internally, he'd have to talk with them about that.
All of the sudden though, the cat let out the loudest mew Dream had ever heard a cat make. Dream quickly looked to his brother only to see the cat biting his hand.
"What just happened?" Dream asked with a raised brow.
Night grinned brightly, not minding the pain. "I tickled him!" He sounded proud and happy, genuinely happy. His aura was even happy!
Dream watched as Night continued to tickle the cat's belly, each time getting a playful swat or bite but not once did he say ow or wince in pain. What Dream didn't know, this was because he was mostly numb to small pains like that.
Dream couldn't help but laugh a bit as he watched his brother play with the cat, he couldn't help but feel jealous. This cat had only been with him for two days and he was already close to his brother.
This cat most likely knew more about Night than Dream could ever hope to know.

Mare starred at Night and Night starred back, determination glossing over both of them.
And then Night blinked.
"Hah, I win."
"Ah, shut up you mishap smoothie." Night rubbed his eye sockets before rolling his eyes at the goopy black skeleton.
"Mishap smoothie..? Is that you're attempt of insulting me?"
"Yeah, why?" Night huffed.
"You're shit at insults." Mare chuckled, flicking Night upside the head playfully.
"And you're surprisingly playful right now," Night hummed, "what's got you in such a mood?"
"To be honest, I have absolutely no idea." Mare smiled, "Normally I try to stay away from happy feelings but I can't help but feel happy myself."
Night physical felt himself do a double-take when he saw Mare smile, butterflies fluttering in his stomach. He shook them off.
"Hey Mare, you can control the dreamscape, right?" Night hummed lightly with a tilted head, much like his brother.
"Of course I can." Mare nodded his head gently, getting comfy under the large oak tree that currently blocked the soft and gentle beams of warm light.
"Could you make it rain then? Like a soft drizzle?" Night requested. Mare only hummed a snapped his fingers.
Soon enough, lovely grey clouds rolled in, taking over the once clear sky. The sunbeams disappeared with the coming rain, small droplets feathering down.
The once gentle breeze died to nothing as the rain fell, soaking into the ground and dripping off leaves. The sun attempting to peak its way out of the clouds but giving in as they continued to block it.
The silent patter of rain replaced the chirping of birds, calling them away to their homes.
Night smiled, standing up, reaching his hand out from under the cover of the leaves. Rain fell onto his hand, rolling off while some droplets soaked his sleeve.
Slowly, he took a step towards the uncovered land, feeling more droplets rain on him. The rain soaked his clothes but rolled off his bones and his crown. A humming sigh left him as he stood out in the rain, the small, cold kisses of the rain making him relax.
Mare couldn't help but watch Night, seeing the small smile that graced him and the content expression that crossed his face.
Night turned to him, his smile widening a bit as he walked back under the cover of the trees. He sat next to Mare.
Mare hummed slightly, not expecting Night to get so close. "You seem... relaxed."
"I am..." Night answered truthfully, "this is the first time in a while I've actually found myself not afraid or worried that I might be hurt again. I've spent so much time fearing for my life that I never got to actually relax."
Mare frowned at that last part, draping his arm gently over Night's shoulders before pulling him a bit closer. Night only jumped at first but he leaned into Mare, feeling his goop sink underneath him slightly. He was surprised at how warm Mare was.
"Hey, Mare..." Night spoke quietly as he looked up to the goopy skeleton, outstretching pinky to him. "Pinkie promise that you'll keep me safe..?"
Mare was taken aback, lifting a curious brow, "Why would you want me to protect you?"
"Well, besides my brother and a few villagers, you're the only one that's genuinely nice to me... but unlike them, I trust you."
Mare perked at his words before sighing and intertwining his pinky with Night's, "Fine, I'll protect you, I promise."
