like a butterfly, time seemed to flow effortlessly. it felt like just in a snap of a finger, they've already reached the end of autumn. the trees that swayed to the rhythm of the wind danced until, one by one, their leaves cascade to the cold ground. the air felt crisper than usual, it was chilly enough to send a wave of shivers. winter was now inching closer and closer.
jeongguk remembers it all too well. it was a moment well-framed and hung on the walls of his mind. it seemed like it was just yesterday when grumpy guk was yelling at the sweet girl upon their first encounter. his face beet red from the anger and her heaven-sent kindness. their first encounter was a moment he could always giggle at.
its funny how a lonesome boy met someone with such high spirits. the universe takes so much unexpected turns.
nari was definitely— something. she was just as unexpected as the universe itself. guk remembers the time at the beginning of their friendship, the point right before it had blossomed. it was just a while back, he had questioned why she wanted to become friends with him. though she's given enough reasons, the insecure lonesome boy was still unsure.
upon asking, nari gave an answer so random to him at that time, it was a reply he least expected. "i don't know why you'd want to be friends with someone as pathetic as me." he said, to which she replied, "iris."
this was something that brought the boy into complete puzzlement. "iris." she repeats, but the confusion he felt still remained. as she giggled at his puzzled expression, she leans into something behind the boy. it was a flowerbed of irises, and she picked an iris from the bush. she held it in front of him, the flower snug in her grasp.
"the language of flowers." she said, passing the frail iris from her hands to his. "iris means, your friendship means so much to me." and flashes her honey-like smile paired with crescent eyes that smiled as well.
jeongguk was left dazed, but that was the last time he were to question their friendship. and from then on, their friendship blossomed.
this all started with an unwanted trip to the other side of the country. however in just a matter of a few months, jeju had felt like his home. it gave him that warm fuzzy feeling he hadn't felt in so long. it was where his favorite garden is, and where a new friendship came to bloom.
"time really does crazy things."
