봄
the sun beamed a different shine as it rose upon the blanket of blue. drops of golden sunshine glimmering across the sky, and blossom by blossom, spring came in full bloom. little forests of snow bid farewell as an array of flowers painted the grass that now seemed more luscious.
she gazes at the sheer curtains that hugged her bedside window, beaming rays seeping through. like the blooms of spring, her eyes glisten at the sight of dancing trees swaying to the familiar tunes of the wind, cicadas chirring and birds singing to the sky.
without hesitation she hurries to what seemed like her second home, the garden. tying her hair into her double braids, slipping on her spring clothes, and grabbing her leather bound notebook, she heads out with a flower-like grin.
"i knew i'd catch you here." she comes across a familiar voice, giggling. and her gaze locks with doe eyes, a charming boy sitting by the beds of asters and daffodils.
"it's spring..." she said with a mellow tone, shifting her gaze to her surroundings. a soft smile carved upon her lips as she sees the beds of flowers finally at bloom. spring that greets her skin with a charming warmth that makes her heart sing. the garden that was once coated in white now bearing a multitude of colors, looking more alive than ever.
her eyes settle on the sight she had been waiting for after what felt like so long. the familiar frail pair of wings that danced along the air ever so gracefully. "it's spring!" the girl repeats, more cheerful than the last. she twirls and frolics on the grass with a smile as beaming as the sun, and as alluring asthe sky. the boy watches from afar, amused.
she waves at every flower and every butterfly, like it was some big reunion. and after much running around, basking the spring air, she finally settles down. the boy cracks a chuckle, "you must really like spring, huh."
"imagine living somewhere with no spring." the girl sighs, "a season that captures the remnants of winter but also bears a promise of a warm summer. what more can you ask for?" she sits looking at the blooming lilacs, smiling at her own words. the boy laughs.
"there's so much i wish i could do in spring!" she exclaims flailing her arms in the air, a trail of frustration in her voice. and he looks at her with furrowed brows, "like what?" he asks.
"a picnic by the lake in the middle of a field of flowers, maybe see the cherry blossoms at bloom, watching them softly fall from the trees, watching the butterflies play along the air..." she looks upon the sky as she spoke, a faint shimmer in her eyes akin to the blooms of spring itself. she spoke as her heart glows parallel to the smiling sun, the corners of her lips carving into a grin.
"why can't you then?" the boy asks, to which she replied, "i have no one to go with. i don't want to go alone, 'cus where's the fun in that?"
"days of spring is better spent with someone. someone dear to you." she adds, eyes meeting with his doe ones once more. honey meeting hazelnut.
"is this your way of trying to bait me into doing all of these with you?"
a bashful grin builds upon the girl's face, "maybe..." she mutters and they both laugh.
there was a swift moment of silence once the laughter faded. melodies of the wind and songs of birds filling the air that engulfed them. they sat in comfort on the rusted bench, both looking at he expanse of the bright spring sky.
"why not?" the boy suddenly utters, snapping the two out of their gaze. she jumps out of her seat, "wait-- really?" the girl asks, evidently in disbelief. "yeah, why not?" the boy utters once more, seeming nonchalant as he sits prim on his seat, trying his best to act cool.
her eyes widen, the flowers in her eyes coming to full bloom. "thank you, thank you, thank you!" she exclaims, jumping out of her seat and pulling the boy into one big bear hug, keeping him snug in her arms as she squeezes the boy's frail body. he was taken aback at the sudden contact, but soon enough giggled at her cheers.
"you're the best, gukkie-ah!" she finally lets go of the boy in her hold, and skips away in excitement.
"gukkie?" the boy mutters to himself, in disbelief of this new nickname the girl had called him oh so suddenly. "gukkie..." he repeats, now watching nari as she frolics around the grass, her braids flailing in the air as she jumped around. he couldn't help but let out giggle.
"gukkie-ah! come look at this!" she hollers, waving her arms at him as she called him to look at god knows what. probably a butterfly, the boy thought to himself.
she calls once more with the new nickname she had made, "gukkie-ah, hurry!" making him laugh. and so he stood from his seat, jogging to where she is.
