오랜만이야

step by step, brick by brick. jeongguk trudges through the carpet of leaves that topped the pavement. beneath the sun's warm embrace he walks through whatever's left of spring. and still, it made his heart melt.

this same path he had strolled through each day, he couldn't imagine how his heart would beat if he were to leave. it would't be the same.

he swore to himself that for the remaining days he'd spent under jeju's blue skies, he'd walk through this path everyday. basking in the last drops of spring and the few suns of summer he'd reach.

he spent those days with those he cherished the most, along  with the view he adored the most.

underneath the shade, he sat beneath a giant magnolia tree overlooking vast fields. fiddling his fingers, he anxiously waits.

could today be the day jeongguk would tell nari about his departure?

the thought made his palms sweat. and he couldn't figure out why it was so difficult to say. if only he had told her from the start, his chest wouldn't be pounding like this. this tight feeling would cease to exist. then again, this friendship was something he had least expected.

when he's here, it's like all the mundane worries he had borne disappears into thin air. not even the slightest care in the world, but that's where he found joy in. and now that he was at the brink of his departure, all those troubling thoughts suddenly come flooding altogether like one big wave.

along with the melodies of spring, the faint sound of steady steps saunter in the distance. through the fields, the sound gets louder with each step. this uneasy feeling sinks in and his already nervous heart pick up its pace. his fists clenched, but trembling.

if he could stop time, he would. without a doubt.

"nari,"

all the words he could say are jumbled in his mind. he turns to face her.

"j-jeongguk..."

a voice calls, soft and gentle. a timbre soothing like summer rain. lengthy raven hair that danced in the wind like silk. and glossed eyes, seeming heaven sent.

they stood against the endless plains, feet parallel to one another. only the sound of the breeze to be heard instead of words. her figure was all too familiar for him to forget.

and that figure wasn't nari.
