"Momo only follows you because you bribe him with food," Katara grumbled, she huffed in displeasure, releasing a pout as Momo flew away with her papayas.
Elaria glanced at her, noticing the fly-aways from her loopies, and the daggers glared at her from her friend's blue orbs. Katara raised her hand to Elaria's old necklace. "The food would go to waste if someone doesn't eat them and it might as well be my baby Momo," She responded.
The two girls are walking around the town, Elaria doing her best to keep Katara distracted and away from Aunt Wu while Aang and Sokka seemingly disappeared from sight.
The girls had tried to look for them but were no longer concerned when they saw Meng was relaxed. She's like a radar for Aang, so if he were in danger then Meng would have made a fuss already, or so Katara and Elaria reasoned.
The blue skies reminded her of Katara's eyes, and the matching shade of robes her friend wore, what clashed against the colors is the glint of gold from the sun necklace around her neck. "Why do you keep grabbing your necklace?" Elaria questioned Katara when she noticed the waterbender go for it. Again.
Katara ripped her hand away from the junction of her neck. She looked as though she were caught stealing. Her eyes wide in shock, fingers twitching, and a sudden intake of breath only further increased Elaria's suspicions of her friend's weird behavior. She could have sworn that Katara flushed red as well.
"Katara?" Elaria pushed her.
"I don't know what you're talking about,"
"Don't give me that, I'm not Sokka, you don't think I won't notice when you suddenly have a new habit of caressing my- Your necklace?" Elaria stuttered,
Katara looked around them, as though she were trying to avoid attention, leaning in closely to Elaria. Who barely shifted back given the number of times they gravitated into each others' space. "So?"
"Aunt Wu told me-" Katara started before she paused and lowered her voice, "that I'd meet my future partner while wearing this necklace!" Her voice gradually rose in excitement.
Elaria gaped, "What?" She sweatdropped as Katara grinned. By then the two came to a stop, "I already can't wait to meet them! She said so much already but then you wouldn't let me eat those papayas," Katara childishly whined.
Elaria felt an incoming headache, she wondered if it rivaled Aunt Wu's after all of Katara's nagging questions. She reached her own dilemma, the necklace that was her own, one that Katara cherished so deeply, was one that Zuko had given her. Did that mean?
Katara watched in shock and confusion as Elaria shook her head rapidly, "That's from my nightmares," Elaria said; dismayed. Her friend squinted, "I didn't think it would be such a nightmare for me to meet my future love!" Katara offendedly responded.
"No! That's not it, it's just-" Elaria tried to save the situation before Katara could run off. "That necklace is so old, you know, Princesses like me hate wearing old jewelry for too long," she made up on the spot. Cringing internally in her head, Elaria soured at how shallow that sounded.
Katara raised a brow, in disbelief her anger had simmered out, "Right," She dragged out. Elaria always hated being referred to as a Princess. Although Katara could guess some reasons why they never ventured deeper into those old wounds. Not past the surface at the very least.
"Let's go back to Aunt Wu!" Elaria suddenly yelled, she grabbed Katara's hand and yanked her away, going on about the other questions the two girls could ask about their future partners. Katara quickly gave in, loving the thought of being able to gossip with another girl about their future romances.
