"Xichen, where has Lan Zhan been staying? I haven't seen him around much," Lan Qiren asked casually while playing with little Jingyi.

Lan Xichen, sitting across from them, swallowed nervously.

"I'm not sure, Uncle. He's probably busy with his studies," Lan Xichen replied, trying not to sound too anxious.

"Hmm," Lan Qiren mumbled, stroking his beard as he observed his grandson.

"I did notice that I haven't seen him practicing the guqin lately. He usually spends a lot of time in his room with his music," Lan Qiren continued.

"It's possible that he's just preoccupied with school matters, Uncle," Lan Xichen replied, forcing himself to maintain his composure. He felt a growing knot of tension in his stomach.

Lan Qiren seemed lost in thought for a moment, then nodded. "I see. That's good, then."

Lan Xichen let out a barely audible sigh of relief. He hated lying to his uncle but believed it was for the best.

Guangyao, who was sitting beside Lan Xichen, discreetly placed a reassuring hand on his back, silently offering support.

"Let's change the subject, shall we?" Lan Xichen suggested, trying to ease the tension in the room.

Just as the conversation shifted, a maid approached Lan Qiren with a message.

"Master Lan Wangji wishes to see you, Master," the maid announced with a bow.

Lan Xichen's eyes widened, realizing that Lan Zhan had likely decided to reveal the truth to their uncle. He hoped it would go smoothly.

"Please tell Wangji to meet me here," Lan Qiren instructed the maid, who promptly left.

Guangyao picked up on Lan Xichen's apprehension and gently whispered, "It will be okay. We'll get through this together."

Lan Xichen nodded gratefully, appreciating the comforting presence of his partner.

As Lan Zhan and Wei Ying arrived at the Jiang residence, a feeling of unease filled the air. Wei Ying couldn't help but tremble, his hands shaking as he pushed baby Sizhui's stroller.

Lan Zhan sensed Wei Ying's anxiety and gave his trembling hands a reassuring squeeze. Wei Ying looked at him, his eyes filled with fear, and Lan Zhan responded with a faint smile, silently telling him that they could face this together.

When they entered the living room, where Lan Qiren and Lan Xichen sat, the atmosphere grew tense. Wei Ying felt the weight of their gazes upon him, and his heart pounded in his chest.

Lan Qiren remained silent, waiting for Lan Zhan to explain.

With a deep breath, Lan Zhan began, "I made a mistake, Uncle." His voice was steady, but he could feel a lump in his throat.

"It was my fault, and I'm here to ask for your forgiveness," he continued, trying to keep his composure.

Lan Qiren listened intently, his expression stern.

"But I won't neglect my duty as a father to my newborn child. I made the mistake, and I can't change what happened. Please give us your blessing; I'm going to marry Wei Ying," Lan Zhan said, his words respectful but determined.

Lan Xichen closed his eyes, awaiting their uncle's response. Wei Ying bit his trembling lip, unable to stop tears from welling up in his eyes. Lan Zhan stood firm, holding Wei Ying's hand tightly, ready for whatever their uncle would say.

Lan Qiren's stern visage held steady as he remained silent, contemplating his response. His lack of reaction heightened the tension in the room.

"I raised you properly, and this is how you repay me?" Lan Qiren finally spoke, his voice laced with disappointment.

Lan Zhan felt anger building within him as his uncle's words struck like daggers. "Please don't blame Wei Ying for this. I was at fault, not him," he defended firmly, his brows furrowing. He couldn't bear to hear Wei Ying be unfairly criticized.

"I told you not to get too close to omegas, didn't I?" Lan Qiren's voice grew even sterner.

Lan Zhan clenched his fists, his patience running thin. Wei Ying's grip on the stroller tightened, his tears streaming down as he struggled to hold back his emotions.

"You will finish your studies somewhere where you won't be distracted," Lan Qiren declared, his voice unwavering.

"UNCLE?!" Lan Zhan's voice finally rose in protest, his frustration bubbling to the surface as he challenged his uncle's decision.

"You dare talk back?!" Lan Qiren shouted, his anger flaring as he attempted to stand but ultimately failed, his heart racing.

"Uncle!" Lan Xichen rushed to his side, supporting him as his uncle's health seemed to deteriorate.

Wei Ying's tears fell freely now, his sobs echoing through the room. Lan Zhan couldn't bear to see Wei Ying in such pain and couldn't contain his anger.

"I won't abandon my family. I'll complete my studies with them by my side, and I'll marry Wei Ying, no matter what," Lan Zhan stated firmly, his voice unyielding, his eyes locked on Wei Ying.

"But—" Lan Zhan cut off any further objections. "No 'buts,'" he said, raising his voice. His determination to stand by Wei Ying was unwavering.

"You don't need to worry. I will resolve this matter with Uncle at a later time," Lan Zhan assured Wei Ying, his gaze filled with love and conviction.

Wei Ying remained silent, his vision blurred by tears, feeling both overwhelmed and relieved by Lan Zhan's steadfast commitment. Baby Sizhui, sensing the tension, joined in with his cries.

Outside the Jiang mansion, Lan Zhan hugged Wei Ying tightly, the two of them seeking solace in each other's embrace. Wei Ying continued to cry, his body trembling, but this time it was with the relief of knowing that Lan Zhan would always be by his side.

Lan Zhan gently cupped Wei Ying's tear-stained cheeks, forcing him to make eye contact. "Look at me, Wei Ying," he whispered, his thumbs wiping away the tears.

"I will marry you, no matter what," he declared firmly, kissing the tip of Wei Ying's nose. Wei Ying's cheeks flushed, his tears replaced by a faint smile as he gazed at Lan Zhan.

"Let's go," Lan Zhan said softly, breaking the moment and placing baby Sizhui back in his stroller. He held Wei Ying's hand, their fingers entwined, as they left the Jiang residence, ready to face the challenges that lay ahead together.
