Lan Zhan and Wei Ying stood at the door of Lan Qiren's private room, their hands tightly clasped onto each other. Wei Ying's heart raced, his nerves making him anxious about what would happen when Lan Qiren saw them. Lan Zhan sensed Wei Ying's anxiety and slipped his hand into Wei Ying's, intertwining their fingers. They exchanged reassuring smiles, took a deep breath, and entered the room.

Lan Qiren's expression changed upon seeing them enter. His brows furrowed, and his face seemed stern, his lips tight with disapproval.

"Uncle, we're here," Lan Zhan greeted as they entered the room. Lan Qiren remained silent, not acknowledging their presence.

"Wei Ying, please sit over there for now. I'll prepare some fruit for Uncle," Lan Zhan whispered to Wei Ying. Wei Ying nodded and made his way to a chair across from Lan Qiren's bed.

Lan Zhan placed a basket filled with fruits on a nearby table and picked up an apple. He washed the apple and sat down in a chair beside Lan Qiren.

"Brother asked me to look after you," Lan Zhan began, his voice calm and steady. Lan Qiren continued to remain silent.

"I want to apologize for my disrespectful behavior yesterday, Uncle," Lan Zhan continued. Lan Qiren finally turned to look at him, his expression still stern.

"But I won't retract my words; I will marry Wei Ying, and I won't leave their side," Lan Zhan declared. Lan Qiren's brows furrowed even deeper, and he clicked his tongue in frustration before closing his eyes.

Lan Zhan noticed the prescription for Lan Qiren's medicine on the table and picked it up.

"I'll go buy your medicines now. Please eat the apple," Lan Zhan said before standing up.

He walked over to Wei Ying and leaned down to kiss him gently on the forehead. "I'll be back," he whispered before gently caressing baby Sizhui's head.

Lan Qiren observed Lan Zhan's actions, particularly his affectionate interaction with Wei Ying and the baby. A softness appeared in Lan Qiren's eyes as he sighed. "He truly cares for his family," Lan Qiren thought, though he couldn't help feeling a pang of wounded pride.

Just then, a nurse entered the room, pushing a tray with food and medicine. Wei Ying immediately stood up and helped the nurse with the tray.

"Sir, here's your lunch," she said, presenting the plate.

"Thank you," Wei Ying replied with a smile as he accepted the plate. The nurse smiled back and exited the room.

"Um, Mr. Lan, your lunch," Wei Ying stammered, his voice trembling with nervousness. He didn't know how to act in front of Lan Qiren.

"Simply place it there," Lan Qiren finally spoke, his tone curt. Wei Ying followed his instructions and set the plate beside the apple. Then, he moved to sit in the chair next to Lan Qiren, bowing his head in respect.

Lan Qiren glanced at Wei Ying, silently waiting for him to return to his seat. When Wei Ying remained seated, Lan Qiren let out a sigh and closed his eyes again.

Suddenly, baby Sizhui's cries broke the silence. Wei Ying immediately stood up and took the baby into his arms, soothing him until the cries subsided.

"That's a good boy. No more tears, okay? We don't want to upset Grandpa," Wei Ying whispered to the baby, his gentle tone soothing both baby Sizhui and Lan Qiren.

Wei Ying then sat back down in the chair beside Lan Qiren, still cradling baby Sizhui. The baby smiled up at Wei Ying, who couldn't help but return the affectionate gaze.

Lan Qiren watched the heartwarming scene before him, his stern demeanor softening once more. He had seen the sudden change from Wei Ying's nurturing of baby Sizhui to the gentle smile that graced his lips, and he couldn't help but feel his heart warm.

"So, Lan Zhan's uncle can be like this," Wei Ying thought, surprised by the unexpected change in Lan Qiren's demeanor. "Maybe baby Sizhui will be the key to bringing peace and understanding to our family," Wei Ying mused, smiling as he fidgeted with the towel around baby Sizhui.
