Kai
I'll never get to see her again? What does that even mean? Where would she go?
But I don't care, it's not like I want to see her again. My life without her is perfect. Sammy is happy so is Palmer. I have a beautiful girlfriend who didn't lie to me, I have a job that I love. Everything is perfect...
"Told you he'd be here," I whip around after hearing Palmer's voice. She is standing beside Enzo.
"Yes take him and go," Avery says while making her way out of the room, the rest of her little friends follow.
"We don't take orders from you," Palmer barks at her.
"Fine, stay here and blow up with the rest of the house," she responds.
"What is up with you guys and arson?" Enzo asks.
"It's the best way to get rid of a building. It's fast and effective," Imelda says with an unsettling, sardonic smile.
"Thanks to you three musketeers, we can't stay here anymore," one of the guys say. I think that is Balderik, Imelda's brother. I recognize him from the picture we found while we were hunting her.
"Yeah so we're going to pack. Whether you leave or stay and die is none of our concern," the other guy says. Palmer, Enzo and I give each other a similar 'annoyed-by-their-nonchalant-attitude' look. In a moment of poor judgement Enzo strings his electro-magnetic whip around them like he's rounding up cattle.
"What are you doing?" I ask, holding his arm.
"We can't let them just walk away after everything they did," he responds, clearly hot-tempered.
"Vada, if you don't do something we will," Imelda says trying to bare the pain of the whip like the others except for Avery who teleports out of the hold and appears behind Enzo. She stares him down intensely, in a matter of seconds cuts start appearing all over his body and face. He screams out in agony and falls to the ground, causing him to involuntarily relinquish his hold on the bandits.
"Avery stop. Heal him, please," I beg while crouching next to him, the cuts are creating a pool of blood on the floor. Seeing my brother in this amount of pain is emotionally agonizing.
"Give me your teleportation rings and I will heal him," she demands.
"Fine, take them, just heal him, now." She places her hands on him and his cries of pain stop. Avery holds out her hand, I take my ring off and in a very hostile manner, place it in her hands. Palmer and Enzo do the same thing. She turns around and starts walking away.
"Yes leave Avery, because that is who you are now, you torture your friend and walk away!" Palmer shouts, the hurt painfully evident in her voice.
"She went easy on him, you're lucky it wasn't one of us who had to deal with you," the other girl spits.
"Is that a threat?" Enzo says bitterly in this girls face, the others protectively stand behind her.
"Try stand in our way again and you'll find out," Balderik replies equally unfriendly.
"Guys," Avery says and after a few seconds they break their stare and walk away. "I'd leave if I were you," she says while walking up the stairs.
Vada
"Mind filling us in on the plan Vay," Tanith says when we all step into Imelda's room since it's the first door in the hall.
"I think they should witness the place going up in flames, they won't ever doubt it," I say impressed with this plan. I'll admit, things got a little heated down there, and that did not seem like acting but that is a problem that can be dealt with later in life.
"As always, master plan," Cassian says.
"With all due respect, those fools don't deserve you," Imelda says with no respect intended and I laugh.
"They are just angry," I say.
"Angry that you're alive?" Rik asks in incredulity.
"No we're angry that we had to spend years mourning someone we loved so much, who never died," Palmer says standing in the doorway.
"Do you have a death wish or something little girl?" Rik asks with a demeaning tone.
"Stop," I say to him while walking towards Palmer. "What now?" I ask.
"I've never been so hurt before Avery, but that doesn't mean I want you to disappear. I know there is no way on earth that you don't have some kind of reason for what you did. I'd like to know what it is, I mean it's the least you could do. I deserve an explanation as to why my big sister figure chose a life without me, right?" I don't know if she would even take me seriously if I told her that a secret organization that has existed for hundreds of years is responsible for fulminares, and I was their newest recruit. Nevertheless, there are more pressing matters at hand, we still can't let them know where our living quarters are, I don't trust them after what they pulled with the poison.
"I have a house to blow up Palmer," I place my hand on her and teleport her outside on the other side of the gate. I go downstairs and do the same to Lorenzo and Kai.
"Is the device ready?" I ask Cassian who is holding a table remarkably fixated while working on it.
"Yes, would you like to do the honors of fake blowing up this house?" he asks like a real gentleman.
"It would be my pleasure." He holds out the tablet to me, and I click on the activate button. Right now, the three outside should be seeing an exploding house. We all rush to look out the window to see the expression on their faces, it definitely worked because all of them are looking up like they're seeing a ghost. "Nicely done Cass," I praise while nodding my head.
"I know they're annoying but they probably don't have money and stuff to get home, it wouldn't be the worst thing if they had teleportation rings," Tanith suggests while staring out the window. I could be wrong, but she is gazing at Lorenzo, she is in a trance. I think someone has a crush.
"Tan, come with me to give them back. If I go alone they might rip my head off." It's been a while since I've seen something as normal as a crush around here. It's gratifying.
"Sure," she replies with a warm smile on her face. I get the rings from off the table and we teleport outside to the gate. The three have already started walking down the road, I chuckle and say, "If you walk back, you'll be home in a month," they all stop and turn around, my presence is greatly unwanted.
"We don't need your help," Kai spits then turns around and keeps walking, the others do the same.
"Please, just take these," Tanith says so sweetly, it brings a smile to my face. An even bigger one appears on her face when Lorenzo is the one who takes the rings from her and nods his head in gratitude. She walks back to me like a child who just got a pony for her birthday.
"Subtle," I say.
"I...I...I don't know what you're talking about," she stutters and then teleports away. I notice Palmer looking back, I wink at her and teleport away.
We'll be in touch.
