Alex

Remind me again why we moved from Illinois to Leesburg Georgia. No one can answer that one because no one knows why, other than my dad's job got moved, so we moved with it. I'm about to grab another box to carry into the house we bought, but my mom stops me.

"Why don't you go across the road and introduce yourself." My mom suggests

"Why would I want to do that?" I ask

"There's a girl the same age as you." Mom smirks

My ears perk up at the word girl, time to make another easily fall for me.

"Yeah, okay," I reply

I walk down our driveway, down the road a little way. I get stopped at the top of the neighbor's driveway by two big gate thingies. I climb over them and am met with I don't even know what this stuff is. Looking around, I spot a girl, standing on a ladder and basically inside a big truck, and there's a guy in the driver's seat. Straightening up, the girl yells.

"TRY IT NOW CLINT!!!"

Just like that, the big truck fires up, I have no idea what was supposed to work, but apparently, it did.

"YES YES YES!" The girl exclaims

The guy, Clint, hops out of the truck and picks the girl up off the ground.

"Great, now I want 30% of the pay you get on this job." The girl says

"Sure," Clint says

Then they turn around.

"Who the hell are you?" The girl asks

"I'm Alex, we just moved in across the road," I say

"Chicago boy?" The girl asks

"Yeah," I reply

"Well I'm Lauren, and you won't last a day out here," Lauren tells me

And with that, they walk away, and I'm left wondering. She didn't melt at the sight of me, and what the hell is this place.
