Although he didn't call that day, I was glad. Because I just couldn't face him. I couldn't tell him our awful truth. Taylor has been here for the last few days. When he does call she takes it for me. The kids always seem happy to hear his voice, meanwhile I was stuck in bed on bed rest. Because in addition to my miscarriage they found two massive lumps on my ovaries.

"Bri, I've made the kids breakfast and I've combed Mimi's unruly hair." She chuckled at the last part as she brought a tray of food in. I had no idea of the time. "How are you feeling?"

"My body hurts," I admitted to her as I laid on my side in the lavish king side bed. It only made me sadder because I was in it alone every night. The curtains were closed so minimum light came through. She sat on the empty side of the bed and gazed over me. She placed her hand softly on my back and rubbed in circles.

"I always said I hated when people say I know how you feel." She started then she paused. "But in this case. I really do know how you feel. Only difference is I was much farther along in my pregnancy and we had tried so hard for that baby."

"You lost a baby."

"A little boy." She smiled, but it was a noticeable sadness behind her smile. "We were going to name him Emmett. He was going to be the next in line for the throne. But that's only because we didn't know we had a little Kyson."

"I'm so sorry Taylor."

"Don't be sorry for me." She chuckled lightly. "I've had my time to heal and I've made my peace."

"How did you do it?"

"I can't even answer that for you." She sighed. "It took years and lots of love and reassurance from Drew."

"Would you guys try again?"

"No." She shook her head slowly as if she honestly thought that question through. "We've come to grips with the fact that my body isn't strong enough to carry children. We'd rather not face the same tragedy twice."

"Do you guys want kids?"

"Of course." She smiled and perked up a bit. "I'd love to watch Drew go into daddy mode."

"So you guys plan to adopt or get a surrogate?"

"Drew isn't too fond of a surrogate, and neither am I. I want to be able to experience the Magic of birthing my own child."

"Understandable," I mumbled while rubbing my eye.

"Speaking of children—have you ever thought about putting the kids in school?"

"Of course but I—I can't just put them in any old school though."

"I have a friend who is president of a private school up in Sola Heights."

"Sola Heights?"

"Yeah. The school is called Orvilton Academy for Gifted and Elite students."

"That sounds expensive."

"Yeah for outsiders." She laughed and crossed her legs. "I can pull some strings and get you an interview and maybe a tour of the school."

" You know what—that sounds really good actually. I may not look it but I really am grateful." I told her as I placed my hand on hers. "You've been a God send to me since the beginning."

"We're family now. Your struggles are a shared burden." She placed her hand over mine and squeezed. "Besides, God knows that before you I was the only woman present with the family."

"Speaking of—where is everyone else?"

"They're around mostly."

"What about Christian?"

"Christian went to Cuba after Rosa died. She was really torn about it."

"How do you feel about it?"

"You—you just pick up on vibes from certain people. You just see through them right away." She said as her thick dark, but well arched brows crashed together. "Needless to say I knew she was a snake."

"I didn't even see it. So when she flipped it was like watching a scene of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde."

"She has charm. It was easy to see the good parts. Especially if you're new to the family."

"Did you know about Chloe and Ralph?"

"Of course." She smiled. "Chloe loved that man to pieces. To the point where she'd lay her life down for him. And he'd do the same for her."

"I feel so bad for him."

"Me too." She said as she played with her jewelry. "I couldn't imagine losing Drew."

"How long have you two been together?"

"Uhh—the better, and worst part, of twelve years."

"Really?"

"Mhm." She nodded. "We got married two months after meeting. My family thought I was crazy but I was so in love with him. And even all these years later I wouldn't change a thing."

"Two months?"

"Yeah girl!" She laughed. "You'll see. When you and Little prince get married you're not gonna want anyone else."

I honestly felt like that now. But I'm not sure if it's from pure love. I know I loved him but at this point he was all I had. He was the only one I felt safest with, and sure we had our issues but with no questions asked he would protect me with his last breath.

"I don't think little prince is the marrying type." I murmured sadly.

"What? Like you don't want to marry him or he doesn't want to get married?"

"The ladder."

"You're afraid of marriage?"

"My parents, who were once madly in love—I watched them turn into enemies so quickly. Especially because he had a double life. He broke her so bad and she fought like hell to keep it together she even tried to give him another child and that still didn't make him happy."

"Bri, you can't let your parents failures become yours." She said sincerely. "You and Brandon have been through hell and back. I know. It gets hard and maybe he is made of bricks but you keep pushing and pushing. He's going to open up to you."

"It's been two years."

"It took me four years to break down Drew's defenses after we got married."

"After the wedding?"

"Crazy. Right?"

It was silent for a long moment and then they came bursting into the room screaming and arguing over the game.

"Mom! Mimi turned off the game while I was playing Fortnite!"

She was crying and pulling at her hair. She came crashing onto the bed luckily Taylor was there to catch her before she could crash into my belly. Kyson climbed into the bed after and laid his head on my chest. I wrapped my arms around him and kissed his cheek.

"You two have your own rooms—your own everything actually and y'all insist on fighting over things."

"I miss daddy." She said clear as day. She can form small sentences but that sentence was very coherent and very stable.

"Me too." I took her hand and removed it from her hair. "He'll be home soon."

"How soon?" Ky added as he continued to lay on my chest. I glanced up at Taylor who had a sympathetic look on her face.

"Daddy is trying to get some things in order so that you guys can have an amazing life. It's tough right now and I'm sure he misses you two like crazy. But it's all gonna be worth it." She told them as she continued to hold onto Mimi.

"Promise?"

"We promise." We spoke in unison. We spent the rest of the day attending to them. Making sure that they got all the love and attention we could give. This was tough to do without him but I had to do it. I promised all of them I would hold it down. And that's what I intended to do. Heartbroken, worn down, distressed and all.
