"How you feeling young buck?"

"Like three 9mm bullets violated my body." I told him as I laid still in bed.

"Between me and you. You one luck ass cat." He chuckled as he sat in the chair that was placed in the corner of the room. "I know a cat took one bullet and died immediately."

"Where they hit em at? The head?"

"Nah. This stud got hit in the leg." He shook his head and observed me.

This can't possibly be the same Ammon from Belladonna. The one that never cursed and always referred to me as sir. The one that stood up whenever I or Ralph entered the room. It just couldn't be.

"I don't remember you being so brazen especially when you was working at the hotel."

"Well, young buck. We ain't at the hotel and I left those bellhop days behind me. Besides that was all a ploy to get you to trust me."

I've heard that narrative before and I wasn't going out like this. Instantly I reached inside the night stand, despite all the pain, for my gun.

"Calm down. It was just to scope you out. It was on Ralph's orders to make sure you wasn't fucking him over for Ray."

"I'd never."

"You wanna know something young buck?"

"What?"

"You shol do got some late ass reflexes."

"Man shut up!"

"And I keep telling you. I wish you no ill will." He said as he pulled a cigarette from behind his ear and lit it. "If I wanted you dead or had some ill feelings toward you I would have kept your gun when I took you to the hospital. I would have let you bleed out in the manor instead of allowing you to bleed in the backseat of my car."

"Can you blame me though?" I asked him genuinely.

"I guess not." He sighed as he took a long drag from his cancer stick. "You and I ain't that different huh? You seen some things, survived some things. They scarred you."

"For life," I told him as I glanced at the clock on the wall. It was time for our daily call. Drew came into the room almost like it was on instinct and handed me my phone.

"Thanks man."

"Tell her. Today." He said sternly. Drew flew all the way down here after he heard I got shot. And I'm just gonna assume that Ammon here called him. There was a sudden knock that could be heard from my room and we all froze.

"Any of you expecting company?"

As if a spell came over us we all shook our heads. We glanced around at each other. No one is supposed to know we're here and this is a remote location. You don't just accidentally wonder upon a place like this.

"Well. Someone here is lyin'," He pulled out his gun and aimed at me and then at Ammon. "Is it you?"

"Let me answer it."

"No, I'll get it."

He aimed at the nightstand and I obliged.

"If he does anything and I mean anything weird. Blast him straight to hell." He said as his thick Italian accent oozed from his voice. He disappeared from the room but I could still hear his feet as they thumped across the floor. It got real silent for a moment. Then the locks could be heard as he unlatched them.
