He sat beside me as we chilled in the yard smoking cigars and drinking whiskey. Well, they drank whiskey, I drank water. That brown liquor shit is disgusting. That was a rich man's drink I wasn't big on that shit. I did enjoy puffing on a cigar though. It made me feel like a boss.
Herb was silently fuming as me and Drew talked more about what was to happen after the wedding. He keeps trying to convince me to take Bri on a honeymoon to a tropical island. But as of right now especially after this shit, I don't see it happening.
Beside I'm sure she felt the same. I doubt Brielle would work up the courage to leave her again. In the kitchen, she and Taylor sat there with the kids while the seamstress fitted their clothes.
"Why do you always have such a sour face?" Drew finally asked him. Herb cut his eyes at him and nodded slowly. I knew Herb had an issue with Drew but I didn't know exactly what it was. I don't need either of them beefing. Ralph has been a father to me and naturally, Drew is my brother. but Herb has been my homie since I was a shorty.
"Aye, let me holla at you in the office," I told a sulking Herb, tapping him on the shoulder. He stood up and followed me through the house.
In passing, I snuck a peek at Mimi and ky in their dress clothes. I don't know, with everything going on, the thought of me marrying this girl was so unbelievable. Not like in an I don't want to kind of way, but in like a damn this shit is really happening type of way.
After he stepped into the office I closed the door. He sat on the chair on the opposite side of the computer and crossed his arms. His face was a dead giveaway to his feelings. He narrowed his eyes and swung his legs open and closed trying to act like he was cool, but clearly, this nigga was mad.
"What's going on with you? Why you tweakin' on my brother?"
"Since when did that nigga become yo brother?"
"Since Ralph took me in and been shielding me from other people's bullshit."
He bunched up his face and threw his head so far back I thought that big ass thing would fall off his shoulders. I rolled my eyes and plopped down in the seat next to him. He shook his head and mumbled.
"You just get worse and worse."
"Nigga—What?"
Now I'm gonna admit it. He was tripping right now, at first I thought he was cool being here. But now I'm starting to peep his true feelings. I scratched my jaw and slouched further in the seat I was in. I don't even know what to say to his ass without being rude. But I honestly did his ass a favor I could have left his ass on that corner in Chicago.
"You need to chill. Ain't no favoritism around me. I ain't changed. I'm still the same Buckz from 79th."
"Is you really?" He questioned as he once again narrowed his eyes at me. He sat up straight and turned his body more to face me. "You smoking cigars and hanging with mafia-looking mothafuckas. They got you acting bougie and when the hell have you ever been the marrying type? Are they making you get married or some shit?"
This nigga is crazy. He's mad because I'm overcoming my corner boy mentality. I wish I could get him to see what my life been like. He'd know that there's a reason that I am this way. My life has been so fucking chaotic, and now I'm just trying to find some peace somewhere in this bullshit hand I was dealt.
"You on that bullshit." I laughed smoothly and rubbed my face. "I'm still Brandon, but I'm getting smarter, I'm trying to even out my life. I been on demon time so long that I just want some peace. And if you don't want that for me then you don't need to be around me."
