I neatly folded all my things and put them away in my bag. They were sleeping soundly in my bed. Kay lay next to them. They were all filling his space like they did every time he went on a trip. I quietly took my bag and tiptoed down the stairs.

When I reached the bottom he was waiting. Leaning against the entranceway table. He had on all black and a skullcap. He sighed as he eventually peeked my way. I'm not sure what I'm doing but I'm too endowed to back out now. I just hope that my feelings are wrong.

"You sure about this?"

"No," I exhaled as I gripped the handle of my carry-on. "Did you bring it?"

"Yes. I did. But I think you should let the men handle this."

"Ammon—the gun."

He groaned but he complied. He put a tiny key in my hand with a piece of paper. He then gave me instructions on where to find said gun and the car when I touched down in New York. As I was fixing to set the alarm I heard bare feet paddling against the marble floors. I held my breath and waited for whoever it was to speak.

"Mommy—where you going?"

I caught his voice before I could locate him. He was perched at the top of the stairs. Rubbing the sleep produced crust from his eyes. So much for a quiet break away. I left a note on the nightstand explaining to Kay that I needed to handle some things and to look out for the kids with Herb's help.

"Go to bed Ky. I'll see you in the morning."

"But mommy where you going? Is daddy back yet?"

"I love you. Now please, go back to bed." I requested. Again my anxiety started rolling. I didn't need any chance for me to change my mind. I slipped out the door and turned on the alarm. He was driving me to the airport. But he was staying behind on Ralph's request to keep an eye out on anything around the house.

"You know—it takes a special kind of love to fly hundreds of miles based on a feeling." He chuckled as he pulled away from the house.

People probably wouldn't understand why. Some would call it toxic, others will call it fake. But this was real to me. From the very beginning, from the moment I met him it was something about him that just drew me in, and each time he hurt me I should have been less attracted to him. But I always found myself wanting to peel off his layers so I could see what he truly was.

Some would argue that in his true form is a ruthless monster, but really he's just a boy who had no guidance, he was lost. All he had was himself and his survival mentality. He's no saint but he was no demon either.

"I can't let him slip away from me." I finally spoke for the first time since I climbed inside the car. "I'd walk through hell just to save him."

"And I know he'd do the same for you. All I ask is that you be careful."

"I will."

"I mean it. Boone—he's calculated son-of-a-bitch but he's ruthless. He won't hesitate to shoot. Not even a pretty woman can get mercy from him. My advice to you is when you raise that gun—you better shoot first and ask questions later."

When I arrived at the airport I went through security and made my way to the gates. I boarded with no problems other than the ones in my head. I don't know what I'm about to walk into. All I know is that I'd follow him wherever.

When the plane finally took off the sun was beginning to rise. But I was just beginning to close my eyes for sleep. I was restless the last few hours unable to even sleep for even a minute. I settled into the seat and closed my eyes. But then I remembered I had one last thing to do.
