S I X M O N T H S E A R L I E RI frowned looking at the tickets in my hand. So close, yet so far.
"Mom, why can't I go?" I whined, giving the tickets back to the man who sold them. "I mean, Kylie gets to go!"
"Because, Mel."
"Oh great one mom, you should be a lawyer!" I rolled my eyes, following her in the crowded hallway. She let out a soft giggle, and turned to me.
"Mel, you know how much those tickets cost right? Plus, you know I'm not really into those things you like so much. Those are raves, Mel. You just turned 16. Those are 18+, so even if I wanted you to go, you couldn't. I'm sorry, Mel. Your sister is 19, and she bought the ticket herself."
"But mom," I whined once again. "I-I mean, the best DJs are going to play there! Martin Garrix, you know how much I love Martin Garrix, right? He's going to be there, and you wouldn't even have to take me anywhere, it's right next to our hotel! A-And you know how bad I want to be a DJ? It would be a dream come true mom!"
"Oh shush, it's our first day here and you're already complaining," she said, taking her phone out of her purse, "I'll be with your dad at the pool if you need anything,"
"Oh great, now you're leaving me by myself," I rolled my eyes, crossing my arms over my chest.
"You can come if you want," she smiled, waiting for my response.
"No thanks,"
"Okay then, I need you to be in our room by 10 p.m," she smiled, making her way towards the door that led outside the main lobby.
I rolled my eyes, and started making my way to our room.My parents don't care. They really don't. I've wanted to be a DJ ever since I was like 8, and everyone always made fun of me for it. I remember one time they asked us what we wanted to be when we grew up at school, and when it was my turn, I said " I want to be a DJ!" and everyone laughed at me.
"That's not a career!"
"A girl DJ?"
"How cute!"
Things like that.Sadly, my parents weren't so supportive either, they kept telling me I wouldn't make it or something, and that it was too hard. I already knew it was hard, but that's what I wanted. I remember composing tracks on things like GarageBand and being obsessed with creating music. Even my name says it. 'Melody'
The first equipment I got, I got it for my 12th birthday, and I've been creating tracks ever since. I have about a hundred tracks. Some really suck, but I'm proud of a couple.
Going to that music festival on Friday would be a great opportunity for me, I could learn from their music while having a great time. I've seen the Ultra and TomorrowLand after movies and it makes me so jealous every time. Jealous of the people who can go there, but even more jealous of the DJs playing there.
I was in Florida at the moment, in a wonderful resort, one of the biggest I've ever seen, and we were spending Christmas there. The festival was on Friday, the 27th, which was in 5 days, so I had a total of 5 days to convince my mother to go there. I had fake IDs, and if I wear proper makeup, I can easily pass for someone 18 and up.
I just needed my mom's approval, which sounded a lot easier than it really was.
When I finally got to my room, I opened the door and threw myself on one of the gigantic beds. They were so fluffy and had a lot of pillows and I still couldn't believe my parents could afford to stay in a hotel like this one, but couldn't afford a 150$ ticket to something that meant so much to me. They just didn't want me to go.
I frowned taking my phone out of my pocket, logging on my twitter and checking the newsfeed."Can't wait to go to #SweetDreams this friday in FL!"(btw i don't think it exists I just made it up lol)
I threw my phone beside me and sighed.I had to go. I simply had to.
I had heard so much about Sweet Dreams Music Festival. I couldn't just not go. It was like a really smaller version of Ultra and going to Ultra is pretty much one of my dreams.
I groaned getting out of my bed. I needed to make these vacations count, even though I would be alone in my room friday while a lot of people will be having the time of their lives at the festival.
Ugh why.I got out of the bed and opened the front door, as I began walking around.
"Hey, Mel!"
I rolled my eyes, turning around."What?" I replied, looking at my sister, her boyfriend and their intertwined hands.
Ew.
It's not that I didn't like him, or my sister, or them together, it's just that they were, uh, pretty intense."What are you even doing by yourself?" she asked, playing with her blonde curl with her free hand.
"Well, mom and dad are at the pool and spending time with them wouldn't make any difference, and hanging out with you guys wouldn't either, so anywhere I go I'm the third wheel,""So, have you convinced mom and dad to go to the festival yet?" she asked, chewing on her gum.
"No, not yet," I replied, looking down.
"Well, what did you expect, Mel? You're too young to go to things like these,"I rolled my eyes at her and frowned. I hated to admit it, but she was right.
"Well, we're gonna go now, have fun lil' sis! Toodles!"
I waited until the sound of her 5 inch heels faded away to sigh in anger.
Kylie was my sister, yes. We did get along pretty well except she demanded to be treated like royalty and I don't remember the last time I've seen her without makeup and her hair perfectly curled or straightened and her nails freshly painted. She was flawless, I was a dork.
As I was about to walk away, two girls passed beside me talking about the festival.
I listened carefully to their conversation to make out what they were saying."Is Hardwell going to be there, I think so, right?..."
"Yeah, I think so,"
"Oh My Gosh, check your twitter newsfeed, Martin Garrix and Zedd are here,"My eyes widened.
"What? Here? You mean in this hotel?" One of them said, as she started freaking out.
"Yes! Look at this picture, it's right next to the lobby"
"Are you serious?"And from then they were too far, but I had heard enough.
It's time to use the stalking skills I've developed being the fangirl I am.
Martin Garrix was here, and I was going to find him.
