Odette caught Ethan on his break, they briefly spoke. He offered to leave early and she declined. She just needed to hear his soothing deep voice. She couldn't find words for his voice, she's fairly sure that to an unbiased ear his voice was alright, nothing extravagant. But to her, his voice felt like warm summer rain, like long tight hugs, he had a voice like love.
Before Ethan, music was her savior. Any music every time. Her friends frankly, were pieces of shit and her family just didn't get it. But music was all there saying "Listen to me sweetheart, I'll make it better." Music still does that for her but Ethan does it better, without even trying. It reminds her of devout people, Ethan is her religion, love is her religion and it is her music.
Odette is writing poetry about Ethan. She isn't the best poet, in fact she thinks she lacks the soul of poet. Her poetic capabilities seem to stop at the half thought of words of a lovesick teenage girl. She tries anyway. She can't help but write, it's as if there are words inside of her, floating in her blood like white blood cells.
"Silky strands of soft short brown hair,
pushed back.
Calloused, strong man hands
against muscular thighs.
Thumbs tucked into blue denim belt loops.
Full red lips in a pout part, to
speak my name
break my heart.
Too much adoration.
I am unworthy,
Yet it's me he worships.
My love means less,
I must try harder,
shower him with kisses and touches-
That mean more than these words.
So often empty, but not with us.
"I love you"
Only our truth,
No one else has felt this,
for surely that couldn't have survived such beauty."
She wants to show this to Ethan but she knows she probably won't. It isn't very good, certainly not good enough for him. She'll have to try again. She wants to show him her love in the only way she knows how. A way transcending touch, words will last an eternity. She vows to write every day, until she creates something perfect.
