Ethan is at the hospital, holding the hand of his comatose mother. The only other person in the room is his father, he is in the other bed. The parkers boys decided not to pull the plug. Ethan is praying, like he does every night. This prayer starts off with an apology,

"Dear Lord who art in Heaven, forgive me.

I know I have asked for a lot, I pray every day and beg for the salvation of me and my lover, Odette. She doesn't believe in your existence, and I know I've told you before that if you let her into heaven with me then I'll be a better person. I'm trying to be a good person, and if you have to damn me to hell to let her in Heaven that's alright, I can except that. And if you can't find it in yourself to let her in then condemn us a both. I know you know all of that, and I know asking you to save my parents is a lot. I know you'll do whatever is right but I hope it's letting them live."

Ethan kisses his mothers' hand and cries. He sets his head down and just stares at the plastic band around her wrist. It says "Christine Parkers." and the date of her admittance.

Odette is worried about Ethan, she knows she needs to be with him, but first she has to do this. She sits on the leather chair with her forearm out, palm up. Her wrist is stinging and burning, but she savors it.The capital E is done and they tattoo artist is working on the next letter.

When it's done and bandaged Odette heads to the hospital. Excited to show Ethan, the permanent mark she got for him. His name tattooed on her right wrist, above her scars. Her version of a butterfly.
