"(Y/n)! Why are you here?" Kyojurou asked as you pulled out the borrowed item and handed it to him. "I forgot you borrowed this, I was gonna go buy a new one!" He smiled, taking the item away from you.
"Yeah, I forgot where I placed my watering can but I found it, so I'm here to return it." He nodded, giving a broad smile.
"So are you going to the festival?" he asked again as you nodded.
"Yeah, I decided to go with Muichirou," you said as he tilted his head to the side, a confused look played on his face.
"But you said two weren't dating? Are you secretly dating or something?" he thought aloud as your cheeks, rebellious as they were, decided to give themselves a dust of pink.
"Ah, no. He's just there in case I fall asleep," you said.
"To think that cold person would say yes to go with you. You're really amazing! It's only a matter of time before you two get together!" He laughed giving you another one of his back pats that hurts a lot but you decided not to say anything against the “pats”, you've already gotten used to them.
"Like I've clarified before Kyojurou, we're just friends," you repeated. "Ah, by the way. Are you also heading to the festival?" you asked as he nodded.
"Yup! I'm taking my younger brother there! I already invited my dad but I'm not sure if he'll come with us." He laughed nervously, scratching the back of his neck. You knew the situation with him and his dad, so that meant you knew they weren't on good terms.
"By the way, where's Senjurou?" you asked, looking around. "I haven't seen him in a while."
You would sometimes go over to Kyojurou's place just for the sake of seeing Senjurou, give him some sweets and have fun with him, and help him with his chores.
"Ah, he's sle–" Kyojurou paused as the door to his estate opened. Both of you expected Senjurou but it was Kyojurou's dad who came out, his eyes widening slightly seeing the both of you.
"Rengoku-san." You tipped your head slightly, showing your respect for the former Flame Pillar. "It's been a while."
"I suppose it has." He nodded. "Excuse me for now and continue on with your business," he excused as he left, going to buy more booze.
"There he goes." Kyojurou stared as his father's figure became smaller and smaller the farther he walked. "Anyway, Senjurou is sleeping. He fell asleep after crying, he really feels bad for not being able to become my tsuguko."
Getting to know Senjurou, you knew no matter how hard he tried his sword wouldn't change color.
"I hope he gets over it soon, even if he can't be your tsuguko, he's still your amazing little brother." He stared at you for a bit in disbelief before smiling widely and giving you another one of his back pats.
"I never thought I'd hear that from you! You're actually nice behind that cold exterior of yours!" He laughed.
He was right though. Since when did you try and sympathize with people? You've always been indifferent, but lately you've gotten more expressive, sharing a few more words.
"Well, I've completed my goal and Senjurou is still asleep, so I guess I'll head home first." He waved you goodbye as you made your way back home.
Sitting on your porch, you watched the clouds go by as you felt yourself slowly dozing off.
......Sleep......
"Woah! Slow down, you're gonna make us both fall!" the boy yelled as the girl, who was leading him, ran with speed.
