CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT
"Congratulations, bud!" Niyakap ako ni Sage na may dalang bouquet of sunflowers and red roses. He congratulated me for finally inheriting our business after months of training.
"Thank you," Sagot ko.
We are having a little celebration with our family and friends dito sa bahay ni Abuela. Ako ang nakamana sa bahay ni Abuela sa Laguna and the party is held here. Only the closest people to me are here.
It has been a year since Abuela's death but, I know she's looking after me, us.
"Congrats, babe!" Sigaw ni Ali sabay yakap sa'kin.
"Salamat," Nginitian ko siya at nakipag-picture.
"Excuse me, may I snatch her for a little bit?" Malamig na sabi ni Sage sa kanila at medyo nataranta silang lahat. He can be a little intimidating at times, I won't deny that.
"O-okay, s-sure y-you c-can." Utal-utal na sabi ni Ali at bahagya pa akong tinulak. Jeez.
I laughed at them and followed Sage. Nandito kami sa garden at walang masyadong tao dito.
"I have a gift," Kinuha niya ang isang box sa likod niya at inilahad sa'kin. It was a black-colored box. Kumunot ang noo ko at umirap siya. "If you're having weird thoughts, don't. This is a necklace.." He opened the box and I saw a beautiful golden sun.
Lumiwanag ang mga mata ko at hinawi ko ang kahon sa kamay niya. "This is beautiful.." Namamangha kong sinabi. I saw how his upper lip rose. "Bakit sun?" Nagtataka kong tanong.
"To remind you that the sun will rise and there is a new beginning..." He got the necklace out of the box and gestured me to turn around, I did what he asked. "Perfect." He said softly while looking at me with a necklace on.
"Thank you, bud! I love it!" Niyakap ko siya ng mahigpit. "Let's go inside." Kinalas ko ang pagkayakap sa kanya at hinila siya pabalik sa loob. I mingled with everyone and inside, took pictures, had some good laugh and got involved in hilarious conversations.
I am grateful for all the people who are here today. I wouldn't heal if it weren't for them. They stood by my side and saved me from the pithole of life. I was in the brink of sadness a year ago, but, I managed to survive. They were everything to me and each of them are important.
"Ate!" Savvy called out to me with this huge grin on her face. Beside her was a tall young man. If I'm not mistaken, this was the chinito guy who went to the hospital when Abuela was still in coma.
"Hi," I greeted. "Care to introduce to me your 'friend'?" Binigyan diin ko ang salitang 'friend' at pumula ang pisngi ni Savvy.
"Uh, you remember Axel, right? My bestfriend in elementary..." Nahihiyang sabi niya.
