Katsuki wasn't sure how his friend had done it, but he'd convinced him to leave his room, and interact with his classmates again. He didn't really want to, but he let himself be dragged downstairs to the common room.
At first, they were all just asking him how he was doing, what had happened, why he'd skipped class, if he's alright, and other stuff like that. But after he wouldn't answer those questions, the conversation quickly shifted towards convincing him to meet the new student, or at least attempting to.
"He's really nice, there's no way you wouldn't like him!"
"Please, you have to meet him, Bakubro!"
"I'm really sure you'd like him, Bakugou!"
"I, too, am certain that the two of you would get along well."
Katsuki was about to snap. He didn't want to hear another fucking word about this guy. He didn't care. He definitely did not want to meet him. He was so close to snap at them.
"C'mon, you'd like him!"
Katsuki turned to look at his friends, and classmates. "No. Not another single fucking word. I couldn't care any less about that guy. I don't want to meet him." He yelled at them. He leaned back in his chair, scowling. He hadn't been that angry in quite a while.
"But you'd really like h—!"
"No. I don't fucking care. I'll see him when I go to class next time, and that's already far too soon in my opinion." He was even more annoyed than he sounded.
"But you didn't even go to class for—"
"I know! Fuck, I know that I skipped class a few times too often. You don't need to fucking tell me. It doesn't even matter," he exclaimed, still annoyed. "I'll have to meet him eventually anyway, so—"
All of a sudden, he stopped speaking.
Silence engulfed the room after a few seconds of Katsuki silently staring past them all.
The others looked around unsure, clueless what seemed to have caught him off guard, until they spotted him, the new student, standing in the doorway.
"Oh, hey. You're, uhh," he looked around the room, seemingly trying to remember Katsuki's name, "B-Bakugou, right?" His voice was as sweet, and soft, and kind sounding as always. "Is everything alright? You seem to be in a bad mood." He was smiling ever so brightly. Something seemed off. That weird feeling Eijirou had had earlier that day, when he was asked to give Katsuki the note, returned. Something was off about that guy.
Katsuki couldn't take his eyes off him, he couldn't believe it. He froze. He— He couldn't fucking believe it. He couldn't. He just could not—
It was too good to be true, too unlikely— He was certain he'd just wake up in a cold sweat in his bed any moment now. But that didn't happen. Why would it? It's far too cliche.
That guy— He looked just like a very certain someone Katsuki used to know. he looked exactly like none other than Katsuki's dear old friend —Were they even friends?— Izuku Midoriya. The only thing about him that looked a bit different was that he looked older. But that was no surprise since that student was obviously two years older than Izuku. Afterall, Izuku's been dead for roughly two years.
But that couldn't be him.
It'd be too good.
Katsuki fell to his knees, still staring at the new student. His eyes were wide, either in shock, disbelief, or confusion. He couldn't quite tell. His breathing got uneven, and he felt like he might faint any moment now.
Just the thought of having Izuku back, of being able to make up for all the things he's done, of getting a second chance, was overwhelming him.
The room felt like it was spinning around him. And like it was getting faster every second. He knew his classmates were talking again, saying something, probably to him, but he didn't really hear or understand any of it.
He held his face in his hands, almsot as if he was trying to shelter himself from everything that was happening around him.
The room just wouldn't stop spinning.
He felt like he was drowning, and like time wasn't working correctly anymore.
He really wanted to believe that the new student was Izuku, but it just felt too good to be true. It was impossible. Izuku was dead. Dead.
Katsuki'd even attended his funeral, he should know that.
But it was such a nice thought. Such a comforting thought. That Izuku might be back. That maybe, he was never gone.
That guy looked exactly like a perfect copy of Izuku. Hell, he even sounded just like him.
And that smile. His smile was exactly like Katsuki'd remembered it.
~
Katsuki didn't quite remember how, but he knew the left the room as soon as he could. In general, his memory of that moment was very blurry. The only thing he could still remember perfectly clear was Izuku- Uhh, the guy that looked, and sounded exactly like Izuku. It was like everything around him blurred, and only Izuku was left recognizable, clear.
Katsuki was leaning against his door. It was locked, for once. He had hot tears streaming down his expressionless face. He wasn't even sad, just completely overwhelmed.
He got up, and walked over to his desk. He looked at the two notes.
He turned to his bookshelf and took out one of Izuku's old hero notebooks, No. 13, the one he'd burned a day before Izuku died. Katsuki never quite understood why, but Inko gave him all of Izuku's hero notebooks after the funeral.
He opened the notebook to a random page, and placed it on his desk next to the two notes.
The handwriting matched.
In that moment, that was all the confirmation he needed. He was convinced that was him, Izuku. He certainly didn't want to believe anything else.
