James seemed to make the bus easily the following morning. He woke up feeling surprisingly great for someone who had had next to no sleep.

His day went pretty regular until just after lunch time. He was sitting in a rather boring class, listening to the teacher rambling on about a subject James could care less about when suddenly, the lesson was interrupted by a knock at the door.

"Come in!" the teacher shouted. As the door opened, James sat motionless, staring into space, not really paying attention. It wasn't until he was tapped on the shoulder by the person sitting next to him that he realised it was for him. By the time, he had glanced up, whoever was at the classroom door had already walked away. "They want you in the library."

James strolled along to the library nonchalantly, not in any rush to return to class. He figured they needed someone to help lift books or some other monotonous task. When he reached the library, he opened the door and stood at the counter was Frank.

"Ah, there you are! I told you I would find you, didn't I?" he exclaimed loudly in the empty library.

"Yeah, great. Listen, I'm in the middle of class right now, this couldn't wait until lunch because I'm busy trying to see if I can achieve full enlightenment by blocking out all background noises, pretty important work." James said, flatly.

Frank stared at James for a few seconds before bursting into laughter, certainly waking James up. "Achieve full enlightenment, oh my!" he chuckled, wiping a tear out of his eye.

"You don't have to fake your laughter at my jokes for me to like you, although it does get it to happen faster." James said, now smiling.

Frank laughed lightly again, "Anyway, I must talk over the plan with you."

"Plan?" James asked.

"Yes, we suspect that Spike is hiding out somewhere in one of the boarded up abandoned places on Moorland Way, you're familiar?" Frank continued as he points to a hand drawn map of the town, lying on the desk of the library reception.

James nodded, "So, I take them on?"

Frank laughed again before he realised that James wasn't making another joke. "My boy, you are in no way ready to do such a thing. You've never even fought a vampire, last time you saw one, you pretty much pissed yourself."

"So what, you train me?"

"Yes, step over here." Frank gestured over to the middle of the library. "I'm going to take you for the rest of the day and train you in here. Tonight, you will patrol and I will join you. Then, we'll see if you're ready for something else."

"Sounds like a plan, but are you sure the library is secure enough for this?" James asked, watching the entrance with speculation.

"Trust me, no one comes in here, it's sad to see where our youth is now. Plus, an old watcher used a school library to train a slayer so I'm sure it's fine." Frank explained.

"Oh yeah, and what happened to this slayer?" James inquired, interested to hear about the other slayers there are out there.

"Actually, both her and the watcher voluntarily left the council but they still give us information now and again, considering they're on the Sunnydale Hellmouth after all, lot of tough work there, let me tell you." Frank answered, noticing the confused look on James' face. "You've got a hell of a lot to learn, my boy. Now let's start off with some simple punches. Just hit the mannequin over there."

James punched the head of the mannequin off with his first attempt and it flew across the room, hitting a bookcase, causing it to fall over and crash to the ground, books falling out everywhere.
