Three loud bangs at the door woke both James and Willow out of their slumber. They both looked at each other with concern. James got up and walked over to the door, opening it. Stood there, was a woman in her early 50's, wearing a dark-brown suit, a pissed-off expression completing the look. "James McDonald?" she said, impatiently, confirming his identity.
"Yes?" James responded.
"Julie Springfield. I'm your new watcher." she told him, pushing past him into the room.
"Excuse you." James said. Julie entered and glanced around, spotting Willow still lying in the bed, who was looking at her with bewilderment.
"I see you were too preoccupied last night to patrol. One thing I will not tolerate is distractions, Mr McDonald. What you do outside of your slayer dedications is frankly none of my business, but never let the two collide. Understand?" she said, turning to face him.
James nodded his head, "Um, aye aye?" he said, unsure what to respond with.
Julie sighed, "A simple 'yes' will suffice, Mr McDonald. Under my guidance, you will be constantly put to the test. We will need to make sure you are constantly fit and at the peak of your potential at all times. There will be no 'breezes' or 'easy fights' during your training, these will be real demons and vampires you will be fighting, with tragic consequences if you fail. Don't always forget the possibility of death, it has happened to every slayer before you and will happen to you quicker than you expect if you're not always one step ahead of your enemy."
James nodded again, "Okay, I can see how this is going to go." James quipped, moving towards the side of the bed to pick up his shoes.
"I'll have less of those smart comments and more active listening, Mr McDonald." Julie replied firmly.
Just then, Buffy walked in on the scene. "Oh hello, who's this?" she asked.
"Buffy! So nice of you to join us!" James said, putting his arm around Julie, "This is Julie, she's my new bitcher- I mean, watcher!"
Willow audibly giggled from her side of the room, earning a glare from Julie.
"Well, it's nice to meet you Julie, I'm Buf-"
"Buffy Summers, yes. I'm aware of you and Rupert. You are certainly one of the more capable slayers I've ever seen but you lack the concentration to live up to your full potential. Need I remind you of your stupidity in leaving the council with that naïve watcher of yours." Julie interrupted.
"Aren't you two just hitting it off?" James said, his arm still around Julie. Buffy stared her down, and the two competed in a glaring contest momentarily.
"We leave in an hour. Be at Mr Giles residence for collection via private Council car." Julie said, leaving swiftly, closing the door behind her.
"Oooh, private council car! What a bitch." Buffy mocked after she had left. James and Willow chuckled at her comment. "I see you two have made up."
James and Willow looked at each other, causing them to both smile. "We're going to try and start something once James comes back." Willow explained.
"I'm glad that you two have come to an understanding. James was so torn last night, I almost felt sorry for him." Buffy said jokingly.
James' head shot to look at Buffy when his name was mentioned, "Well, I knew what I had to do."
"You had to do Willow?" Buffy asked, one eyebrow raised.
James blushed slightly, "Well, not in the literal sense...however, now that you mention it..." James turned to look at Willow, making her blush too.
"Ew, ew, ew, I'll leave you two to drool over each other here, I'm leaving to go to Giles' place." Buffy said, grabbing another stake, which was the reason she stopped by, and moved for the door.
