Chapter 16

** Jacob's P.O.V. ** 

I spent the last 12 days camping in a spot Casper used to take me. I needed to get away from everything, everyone. Between Kelsey's incessant please to hack the F.B.I. and my dad flipping out and hiding my whole life from me I think I needed to cut myself off for a few days. But I miss Kelsey and I've ignored her for the last week so I think it was time I went back. But one things for sure I do not want to see Casper's face again.  

I finally pulled up outside Kelsey's apartment and walked up the pavement issuing a soft knock on her door 

"Jacob" she squealed as she answered the door and jumped into my arms 

"Hey Kels, look I' so sorry for ignoring you these last few days but I seriously needed some time out and I'm gonna make it up to..." I started but Kelsey interrupted me by placing her lips on mine and not letting go until we were both struggling for air 

"You don't have to explain yourself to me Jake" Kelsey said sincerely, "I know these last few months have been tough for you" she smiled in consolation 

"Thanks Kels, so tell me, what have you been up to?" I smiled cheering up the subject 

A grave look came upon Kelsey's features but also a look of excitement 

"What is it?" I asked concerned but also confused 

"Come in and rest" she said as she led me through to her living room 

I sat cautiously on her massive red sofa that lined the side of the room staring intently at her 

She brought in a steaming mug of tea for the both of us and sat on her small armchair across the room 

"So" she started cautiously as she watched my expressions carefully "while you were gone I sorta kinda hacked into the F.B.I.'s systems" she blurted out 

At first I didn't know what to feel, I was angry that she went behind my back but relieved that she was sitting here in front of me and not in federal prison 

"So why are you still here?" I questioned her seriously  

"They recruited me" she jumped up in delight as did I and I picked her up and swung her around the room kissing her on her forehead 

"Kelsey I'm so happy for you!" I smiled with relief that something good had come of it 

"Were they not angry?" I questioned as we sat back down 

"Well yea obviously but they saw I didn't hack to harm but more so to show them what I could do" she replied with a grin of self-satisfaction 

"Wow Kels, that's amazing! When do you start?" I asked 

"I started this week, it's awesome! I get to work on cases with their tech analyst and I also do standard Agent training" she replied excitedly 

"But there is one thing Jacob" her face grew solemn as she stared at me sharply 

"What is it?" I said as the room suddenly grew heavier and a lot more serious 

"When I hacked them, I found a file" she took a deep breath "it's about your mother Jacob, you need to see something" she said in a low tone
