Jay’s POV
We finally reach the hospital and the paramedics open the ambulance doors to get Siva out. I can see that he’s getting weaker and weaker, so the pills must be slowly starting to digest. I wish there was something I could have done to stop him, but it seemed like his heart was set on this. I follow the stretcher, as it is wheeled out of the ambulance and into the hospital. As soon as it’s through the doors, a doctor runs over to us. “Right what’s happened?” he asks, with his clip board in hand.
“Over dose” the first paramedic explains. The second one is wheeling the stretcher down the corridor.
“Name?” the doctor asks, as he notes a few things down. The paramedic then looks at me.
“Siva Kaneswaran” I tell him and the doctor nods. He then looks at Siva for a second, before saying “Conscious”. He then notes something else down on the paper, before pointing to one of the rooms down the corridor. We must have walked half way across the hospital by now, but yet everything looks the same. How can people work in places like this? I’m sure I would get lost. The first paramedic then opens one of the doors and the second one, wheels Siva into the room.
“You need to stay out here, I’m afraid” the first paramedic says, as the second paramedic comes back out of the room and they both walk off down the corridor. There is a window to the room and thankfully I can see through the shutter blinds. I peer through, where I notice that inside the room, there are about three different doctors, all with masks on. The first one is a woman, who looks about twenty. She has brown hair and looks about average height. The second one is a man. He looks quite tall, but I can’t see his hair, because he’s wearing a hair net. The last one is the one who was walking down the corridor with us. He looks about thirty, with black hair and a quite big build. I can see their mouths moving, so they must be talking.
After a couple of minutes, the female doctor walks over to Siva and checks his pupils, whilst the one who came down the corridor with us, makes his way towards the door. He walks out of the room and then closes the door quietly. “Hello” he says, as he turns to me. I turn my head so I’m now looking at him. “Are you a relative?” he asks me.
“Yes, I’m his brother” I lie; I know that they don’t like people hanging around if they’re not relatives and they can’t share any news.
“Ok, well your brother over dosed earlier today and by the looks of things, the effect so far is minor. However we are going to pump his stomach to stop them from taking any effect, when they’re fully digested” he says.
“Can I go in?” I ask him.
“No, I’m afraid you are not permitted to be in the room whilst the doctors are working, sorry” he says. I then notice that he is wearing a name badge, which says “Doctor J Riley”
“Well will he be in there very long?” I ask.
“No, he seems to be conscious, which means the pills should still be pretty whole, so that shouldn’t take too long. However there is a chance that we will be keeping him over night. Just to observe him” Doctor Riley tells me.
“Ok then. So you will be moving him to another room right?” I ask him.
“Yes” he says and with that he smiles and the walks off down the corridor, leaving me wondering whether Siva will be ok. I turn to look back through the window and the remaining two doctors are pumping Siva’s stomach.
It’s not long before they seem to be done and Siva is lifted off of the stretcher and into a wheel chair. The female doctor wheels Siva towards the door and soon enough he’s right in front of me. He doesn’t look any happier than before though and I know this won’t be the end of his depression and suicidal feelings. I just have to be here to catch him if he falls again. He’s my best friend and I wouldn’t want anything to happen to him. “Are you a relative?” one of the doctors asks him.
“Yes, I’m Siva’s brother” I lie again.
“Ok, follow me” the female doctor tells me, as she wheels him off down the corridor, leaving the other doctor inside the room. I follow her until we get to an adult room and Siva is given a privet room. He is wheeled in by the doctor and then he climbs onto the bed. “Now, Nurse Campbell will be in shortly to check on you” she says, before leaving the room. I sit down on the chair, which is next to the bed.
“I can’t believe they’re keeping you in over night” I tell him, but he doesn’t even answer me. He just lies down on the bed and then turns his body away from me. I know he doesn’t want to see anyone right now, but I can’t just give up on him. I know that if I did, he might not survive next time. He needs me to be here for him and help him through this rough time. He’s going to be ok, I just know it.
“Siva?” I ask, but he doesn’t even answer. The nearest thing to a reply I get out of him is a little sniffle, which just told me that he’s crying. I feel so sorry for him and I know that if I could take this bullet for him, I would. I don’t want to see any of my friends going through this.
