Max’s POV

“It’s going to be ok, don’t worry. You deserve so much more than Mark anyway” I say, as I wrap my arm around Mary. I can’t believe Claire would be so heartless, her and Siva have always been so perfect together, but I guess I was wrong, we were all wrong.

“How is it going to be ok? How?” she asks me, as she pushes my arm off of her. She looks up at me and her makeup has now smudged right now her cheeks.

“Listen; do you remember when we were fifteen?” I ask her, as I give her a reassuring smile. Me and Mary used to go to school together and we’ve been friends for as long as I can remember. I was the one who introduced her to Mark; I just never expected it to end up like this. “When Luke Darcy dumped you for that slag, Serena?” I continue and she nods. “We took the photo of you two together and we blue tacked it to your bedroom door and then we threw darts at it, do you remember?” I ask her.

“Yeah” she sniffs, “But its different now. Me and Mark are married and besides, I never loved Luke Darcy” she says, before putting her head into her hands again.

“You can still get through this and I’m going to help you” I tell her, as I stroke her back.

“And how are we going to do that then?” she asks, as she looks up at me again.

“Jay’s single, maybe he could be your rebound?” I ask her. Jay’s one of my best friends and I know that if anyone is going to treat her right, it will he him.

“I don’t need a rebound. I need Mark” she sobs.

“Look, I’m sorry” I hear a familiar voice coming from behind me. I look up to see Claire standing in the door way of the waiting room.

“Haven’t you done enough” I ask her, in a bitter tone.

“I need to explain. Mary, this wasn’t anything personal. It was just, well, there’s just something about him” she continues, but as Mary looks up at her, I can see that she’s about to attack her.

“Just go, Claire” I say, as I point to the exit.

“No, I don’t want her to get the wrong end of the stick” she says.

“If I were you, I would be running as far away from this hospital as you can get, because when I get to the number three, I am going to rip your head off! One” Mary screams and I have to admit, I’m feeling a little scared right now.

“Go” I mouth to Claire, in the hope that she will listen. Mary has always been quite violent when she’s angry and I don’t want to find myself sitting in a blood bath. At that moment, Claire makes her way out of the hospital, leaving me and Mary alone.

“She has some nerve” I say.

“I know” Mary confirms.

“Would you stay with him?” I ask her, in complete curiosity.

“What?” she asks, with an eyebrow raised.

“If he told you that he was sorry and he loved you, would you forgive him?” I ask her.

“I don’t know. Maybe if he wasn’t going to do it again. Why?”

“Because I have this friend, her names Becky and well, I think I like her, but she has this boyfriend who cheats on her, but she won’t leave him” I explain.

“Well just show her that not everyone’s like that and that you can treat her better than this other guy can” she tells me, as she begins to wipe her eyes.

“But she loves him” I say, as I look down at my lap.

“Oh” she says. “Maybe you could show her that you’re better for her than he is and maybe she will fall for you. I don’t know” she sighs.
