Narito na— narito na! Narito na ang diario!
She excitedly rushes out of the door to the shaded balcony where Doña Consuelo, Narcisa and Rafael have gathered. It is New Year's Day and the grand house of Don Astolfo and Doña Consuelo are expecting guests for lunch. To while away the time, Rafael decides to continue reading the book that Solomon gave to him as a gift just before Christmas Day. Narcisa, out of boredom, had taken out the playing cards.
Doña Consuelo:
Ano bang sinisigao mo riyan, Cecilia?
The family's matriarch asks after her writing is interrupted.
Cecilia:
Tia Consuelo, nai-lathala na sa diario ang ucol sa pacuicuipag-casundo nina Segismundo at Narcisa!
Narcisa rises from her seat and approaches Cecilia.
Her cousin shows them them the page on the newspaper where the announcement is printed.
Doña Consuelo:
Rafael, narinig mo ba iyon, mi hijo?
Rafael could not be bothered.

Maestro Clotaldo:
Buenas dias, Señor! Narito ba ang Señor Segismundo?
A gentleman in his thirties enter the office on the upper floor of the fabrica and asks for Segismundo.
Rafael:
Aco lamang ang narito. Marahil nasa baba siya. Anong maipag-lilingcod?
Rafael had reported to the fabrica just after Dia de los Tres Reyes Magos but went straight to the office upstairs upon seeing Segismundo making his rounds.
Maestro Clotaldo:
Clotaldo Osorio, Señor. Arquitecto.
He introduces himself and extends his hand.
Rafael:
Rafael Alvize.
Rafael takes the gentleman's hand and they exchange handshakes.
Maestro Clotaldo:
Narito aco upang ipa-suri ang mga dibujo [drawings/draft] bagong bahay ni Señor Segismundo de Arrastia.
Rafael notices the large rolls of paper the gentleman carries with him.
Rafael:
Bagong bahay ni Señor Segismundo?
He asks.
Segismundo:
Ah, Maestro Clotaldo. Dispensa, Señor...
Segismundo enters the office.

Ipag-paumanhin po, Señor. Ngunit ayon po sa utos sa amin, dito po ihahatid ang mga ito sa Compaña el Nuevo Sueño sa Hacienda de Santa Ines.
Eight huge carts laden with bricks and lumber pulled by horses have arrived at the fabrica to unload their cargo of building materials.
Segismundo:
Uala acong na-aalalang may binili ang compaña na tisa at troso. Hindi co ma-aaring ipa-baba ang mga iyan rito at uala naman sa talaan at cuentas ang mga iyan —uala ring salaping nai-laan para riyan.
